Summary
In 2013, the U.S. Army will implement the Integrated Warfighter System (IWS), evolving what we know as the modern soldier. IWS combines advanced weapon systems, satellite communication devices and enhanced survivability into one fully integrated combat system. The IWS program has been developed to meet these new threats head on. Now, it can be tested on the battlefield. Following an insurgence in the heart of Mexico City, the U.S. Army's most elite Special Forces team is deployed to the center of the conflict to regain control of the city. Greatly outnumbered but fully equipped with the IWS, this elite team is the first and last line of defense on the battlefield. They are the "Quiet" professionals. They are the Ghosts. Gain access to the future of military technology. Using a fully integrated combat system with cutting-edge weapons and revolutionary communication systems, gamers embody the soldier of the future. Based on actual U.S. Army research, the Ghosts give gamers a realistic view of how war will be fought in the next decade. Use the revolutionary Cross-Com, a communication device powered by satellite technology. Attached to the soldier's monocle, the Cross-Com provides full situational awareness and command of the battlefield. Command the Ghost squad and remote allied forces and drones, and direct artillery and air strikes. See what the squad sees and receive visual and auditory intel from allied forces and unmanned drones. [Ubisoft]

But it all comes down to the gameplay and that is where GRAW really excels. Whether you are exploring the challenging single-player campaign or risking your job, family, and friends to play just one more game online, Ubisoft has created a whole new addiction that will be a tough habit to break. I’m not even going to try.

A slightly fiddly control scheme, some less-than-stellar AI and perhaps the sense that the graphics could have been a teensy bit more polished are the only factors that hold this particular experience back from absolute greatness.

An incredibly solid game. Unfortunately, it lacks just a little bit in the AI department to make it a shining example of a perfect game, but it does begin the justification of owning a 360.

When the gameplay is not weighed down by the awkward squad controls (specifically when freed on Live) and the occasionally laughable AI, Advanced Warfighter's tightly confined urban combat is thoroughly impressive; and when the visuals are not compromised by poorly implemented night-vision, the graphics are astounding and far outreach anything presently available on the 360.

Its multiplayer component is far better suited to the game’s design potential than a singleplayer campaign that’s more the frontline rookie, dazzled and dazed by blast upon blast upon blast. [May 2006, p.88]

The single-player game has a few rough spots, but multiplayer is flat-out fantastic. And let’s face it; the incredible graphics don’t hurt either.

Sadly, as entertaining as the multiplayer game is, it suffers from some issues with random disconnections of players when things get busy, seemingly requiring a connection with a substantial upload speed to allow even 8 players to play co-operatively (meaning although 16-player co-op is possible it’s highly unlikely to come about in practice).

Devotees of multiplayer shooters will lap up Advanced Warfighter; single-player gamers won't be quite as enthralled. But in either mode, it's a gorgeous and atmospheric play, and just a little more time in boot camp would have made it into something really outstanding.

GRAW lets you down just when you start to believe in it, and the net result is that although it's still very good, it's simply not as polished or amazing as it should have been.

Sadistic X gave it a4:
This game was rushed. It's jam packed full of bugs to the point where it interferes with the already bad gameplay mechanics and frustrating controls. As others said AI is terrible. That means units sometimes dont follow orders or get themselves shot while your trying to do your objectives. The graphics are bad, the whole game is overly dark, and overuses the "bloom effect". It seems like a cheap way to get the "next gen' look. the night missions are almost unplayable and the nightvision is nearly usueless. You'll have to turn off the dynamic contrast on your HDTV and raise the brightness which makes the game look JUST like a ps2 game. The explosions are good, the animations are good and the voice acting is top notch. This game was rushed in ALL other departments, probably because of pressure from the overexcited gaming community hype or shareholders or microsoft in an effort to keep its lead over sony.
Max gave it a9:
Tom Clancy games rarely disappoint me. I had a fun time with Ghost Recon. Sadly, it was my first game i bought for the 360 and I didn't know what would happen when I pick up the 360 when it's playing a cd inside it.....(it gets scratched). The assortment of rifles, snipers, and machine guns were fun to play with. The maps were fun and I liked how I could hook up 3 other controllers and play online with my friends. I am disappointed in GRAW 2 because there isn't anyone playing GRAW1 anymore and GRAW 2 isn't as good. This game was$60 well spent but there isn't many people playing it anymore so a used copy from Gamestop would well suit a gamer.
Nate C. gave it a9:
Impressive. Great graphics and gameplay. Friendly AI is dumb as a post though. You actually have to think to get through the game.
Wombat P. gave it a5:
I have been playing Tactical games since Rainbow Six 1, but this is just sad. AI is horrible. Just set them to follow, don't try anything fancy, and pretend like they are not following you around. Its just not fun having to walk, stop, use the "Cross-Com" (this literally takes over a minute on average), set up your guys, and then some guy comes and caps you in the back. Cover system is horribly implemented. You are give so much stuff you feel obligated to use it, but you have a much higher degree of success if you run around, not being too stupid, and just shooting first. Graphics are great, but everything is yellow. If you see pictures of Mexico City, its got red, green, etc. In GRAW, everything is so yellow and orange you always have to squint. I honestly don't get why ALL the magazines and sites gave this game a good review. It's not just me, every single person I know with an Xbox360 would agree GRAW is terrible. I think n00bs just get a kick out of thinking that they are genius's and saying "Well, I am a fan of a tactical shooter, I have always been intillegent lol!!1 I pwn on Ghost Recon" Buy the original Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon 1, hell, even 2, instead of this garbage.
James A. gave it a10:
Great graphics, fun online, only wish more co-op, if anyone who said this game is too hard doesn't know a good game, games are ment to be hard, the makers don't want you to beat it as soon as you get it, lost of wapons, I love it, my fav.
Timothy Cycofoo831 gave it a10:
GRAW is absolutely the most realistic game, compared to other games. GRAW is the most realistic video game today because tacticalism and the perfection of the 1 shot kill. I'm a 2nd lieutenant in the army and I know how to lead a squad or company. Meaning I don't run around like a vulnerable idiot I play with my friends which are also in the army. We play tactical. Like it was real warfare and trust me this is the most realistic thing we can ever get to Far cry is FAR from realistic. Not even close to realistic the only things that aren't realistic is the Weapon recoil.
Mike W. gave it a4:
Pretty graphics are the ONLY plus point of what is a dire, frustrating, glitchy step backwards for this franchise. Too difficult in places but the pure boredom is the real killer.
