Console Monster

Anyone that loves Marvel, Capcom, fighting games or games in general needs to pick up this game. At around £12 it's much easier than having to dig around bargain bins or eBay to find a Dreamcast copy.

If you enjoy the Street Fighter series, or the Marvel fighting games that Capcom made back in the day then this is one you shouldn't miss.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a true classic in the realm of fighting games, and Capcom has put together a faithful, fun port at a reasonable $15 price point, and has included just enough modern features to make you feel satisfied - even if you already own an older copy.

Capcom’s called it “the best fighting game net code ever created for consoles”. We’re inclined to agree. When all is said and done, if you’re a fighting game fan MvC2 is an essential purchase.

This really is the fighting game evolved to the level of artform, and while mastery can be a long, tough slog, it's also its own reward. There are few fighting games better.

This is a must-own game for fans of Marvel, Capcom, or fighting games in general. I bought it on XBLA, and I plan to buy it again when it drops on PSN in a few weeks, and I'd buy the damn thing again if it ever came to the Wii. It's just that good.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is as great today as it was nine years ago. Now it’s back in semi-HD and, best of all, they have saved you hours of fun unlocking every character and scene; now you can play as any team you want from the start, online or off.

Planet Xbox 360

It’s no secret that MvC2 is not a very accessible game and doesn’t bring anything new to the fighting game table like Street Fighter IV and BlazeBlu, but if you are looking to hone your MvC2 skills on more than those in your immediate vicinity, or just think that Wolverine vs. Megaman would be a dream match, there is little reason not to pick this game up the next time you log online.

For fans of the original game, this is easily the best version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. The improved visuals help make it feel like a 2-year-old game instead of a 9-year-old game, the online play is phenomenal, and the price ($15) an excellent value for a game that costs at least $90 for a used Dreamcast copy.

Although there are things to be improved in the online game of Marvel vs Capcom 2, this title is as fun as it was in 2000, and that's quite a thing to say about a videogame.

It may not be the most diverse package and it certainly won’t convert the non-believers, but for those who have fond memories of insane Wolverine and Spiderman and Ryu v. Cyclops and Cable and Sentinel bouts, it’s the same great taste you’ve enjoyed for years. And on top of that, it’s way cheaper to buy a copy of this download than any other method of picking up this game.

Gaming Age

It's a pretty over-the-top fighter, with a heavy emphasis on flashy supers and specials more than a complex combo/counter system, so it's not going to be for everyone to enjoy. If you're an old fan of the game though, you'll know what to expect.

What Our Users Said

The average user rating for this game is 8.2 (out of 10) based on 15 User Votes

Note: User votes are NOT included in the Metascore calculation.

Dan L. gave it a10:
Still the best fighting game ever made. Now I can play over the internet like I have always dreamed of. The best thing on earth that you can buy for 15 dollars in my opinion.

Kyle M gave it a10:
While it's undeniably easy to spam cheap tactics, Marvel vs Capcom 2 offers incredibly fun game play for a 15$ price that is well worth it.

Chris M gave it a9:
This really is the ultimate 2-D fighting game. With a cast of 56 characters, and almost limitless combo possibilities, this is a must-have for any fighting game fan. That being said, to be any good at this game, it requires lots and lots of time in the training mode. It's not very welcoming for beginners, and has a steep learning curve. However, the rewards for your hard work are plentiful - kicking butt with your hand-picked team is a great feeling!

Lester C gave it a10:
Finally, MVC2 has and always will have the perfect balance of pace, character and addictiveness. This game in nearly flawless if you are a true fighter-game vet and the ability to place online has been a truly remarkable feature.

stack money gave it a10:
Still the most fun available in a fighting game.Leaderboard is not relevant in this game due to lack balance of balance, but balance was not their goal when making this game as evident by the huge disparity.Fun was,and fun they delivered. Now with an opponent just a few button pushes away,if a good time is what you are looking for then you cant go wrong with mvc2.Being best at something and solid enough everywhere else that matters deserves a 10.

Hagen M gave it a10:
Sheer perfection. This fighting game came onto the scene and demolished all others with it's simple, yet complex system involving many different combinations of fighters. It's a game you can easily pick up, but will take much practice to master. Greatest fighting game of all time and one of the best games ever created. Giving this game anything less than a ten would not be doing justice.
