Summary
In the future, rebel space colonies launch a brutal war of independence with a series of coordinated orbital strikes against Earth. The chaotic assault signals the dawn of a new age of combat and the ultimate instrument of warfare is born, the Mobile Suit. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 combines the devastating power of the Mobile Suit, the rich legacy of the Gundam universe and the furious Tactical Action game play of the Dynasty Warriors series. The game thrusts players into incredible battles against legions of enemy Mobile Suits on distant planetary surfaces and in the far reaches of outer space. For the first time, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 lets players engage in melee battles against colossal enemies such as the Psycho Gundam. The massive Psycho Gundam can quickly reconfigure their bodies into titanic mobile fortresses which can move with remarkable speed. However, highly-trained pilots can utilize their own Mobile Suit’s speed, agility, and of course firepower to defeat these deadly juggernauts. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 also includes new stories featuring mecha from the latest Gundam anime, plus mecha from Char’s Counter Attack and more. With mecha parts collected throughout the course of the game, players can adapt a Mobile Suit which can be piloted into combat. [Namco Bandai Games]

Fans of both the Dynasty Wariors and the Gundam shows are going to enjoy this title. Koei have gone out and given us a great robot fighting game.

Because no matter how many ways in which our beloved hobby may change over the next couple of years, smashing up hundreds of massive robots will always be fun.

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 is the type of niche game that will be overly-criticized by most and adored by its fans. If you are a card-carrying member of the Gundam army there is no reason not to pick up this ridiculously-stuffed disc full of content.

If you like hack n’ slash gameplay, the game’s many different modes will keep you playing for quite awhile. It’s just too bad this title sticks so firmly to this singular gameplay aspect.

DW: Gundam 2 is a good improvement over the first game in the series, thanks to many new mission types, multiplayer modes and a better technical realization. Fans of the Gundam universe will like the great number of characters and Mobile Suits, but be sure to know what you're getting: it's a classical Koei hack'n'slash, with a very repetitive gameplay and often dull environments, so if you don't like this kind of games you could get bored quite easily.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 turned out to be a well done product, mostly on the technical side, and a quite entertaining one. The numerous game modes, as well as a plot not particularly inspired but interesting enough, guarantee an enjoyable experience, even if mostly recommended for the anime fun.

True fans of the Gundam universe will surely get their money’s worth out of Gundam 2, as will longtime followers of Omega’s Dynasty lineup. The rest of you will be better off with a rental at first, as the novelty of controlling a mech in large-scale, strategy-oriented skirmishes wears off quicker than one might imagine.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 is one of the best of Koei's massive beat 'em ups, with tons of new content respect the original. The new Mission Mode includes hundreds of levels, offering a considerable longevity. Unfortunately, the graphical section of DWG2 is very poor, and online options aren't satisfactory.

Giant robots or not, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 doesn’t quite have the thrust to wedge this stagnating series out of its fixed orbit.

With a hard to follow story and repetitive gameplay, it’s difficult to recommend Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 to anyone other than fans of the series.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 seems like it barely takes a step forward past its predecessor. In some cases, it even takes a step back.

In short, while Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 is a further refinement of a game format that has been in and out of consoles since the nineties, it bears no amazing, revolutionary features to validate a purchase.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 is a decent game that players will enjoy if they are fans of the Gundam or Dynasty Warriors series, but in order to stay up with the times the entire franchise should be retooled from the graphics to the actual gameplay to stay current in this day and age.

Despite offering a number of playable mech pilots along with local and online multiplayer modes, the result is an unmotivated rehash that's overdue for an evolution (or extinction).

Really, it’s the same old story — if you like all things Warriors, buy this with confidence. If you don’t, then don’t. Easy.

Better than the first, but still not brilliant. [Mar 2009, p.93]

Even for the hardcore fans I’m sure re-iterations start to grind, and although Gundam 2 is a step out the Chinese and Japanese historical fantasy books, it’s still feeling rather stale.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 is a good example of how not all Dynasty Warriors games are created equal. Despite having a much larger cast and very similar gameplay, DW: Gundam 2 is less fun than its predecessor in many crucial ways.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 is a repetitive and bland hack 'n slash experience with a thick anime coat of paint.

To me, it's the same old song and dance that we've endured for far too many years now. It's time for a change before you lose even your most diehard of fans.

Koei brings another classic hack'n slash from the Dynasty series, but gameplay is still boring and repetitive. The little Gundam wikipedia inside the game is a bonus, but a strong "deja vu" feeling is granted for everyone.

As is the case with every title in the franchise, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 doesn't re-invent the wheel. A few minor changes here and there, more than double the playable characters, and a half-hearted attempt at bringing large scale boss fights to the series are the only real changes over the last version.

This bot-filled sequel delivers all of the mind-numbing monotony we've come to expect from the Dynasty Warriors franchise.

KOEI misses the target again. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 is the same game as the others Dynasty Warriors: Gundam series of the past. Old gameplay old graphics, a boring game that even a Gundam's superfan will not enjoy.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 is boring. And repetitive. And repetitive. AND REPETITIVE.

Not even worth it for fans of either series. [Issue#44, p.85]
Game Revolution
DW:G2 feels like it was made for fans, but Koei didn’t know which fans to placate: theirs or Gundam fans. It tries to satisfy both but ends up disappointing both.

To break up the monotony of smashing hundreds and thousands of the same enemies to bits, interrupted only by the chance to restart levels because of something out of your control, you get to fight some mega mechs. These don’t necessarily require any skill, only speed, because if he latches onto one of your team you have to finish him quick as no doubt it’ll be game over shortly, and your fingers really can’t take 15 minutes of X bashing to get back here to fight him again.

Shallow and incredibly dull, another year, another rank DW title. [June 2009, p.82]
Teletext GameCentral
The same old Dynasty Warriors formula is reused and abused yet again, and not even giant robots can save it.

Jordankaiene V gave it an8:
Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 is a sure thing. Solid game play with spot on hit detection and very good graphics for Dynasty Warriors game. I never saw any slow down even with 100's of units on screen in split screen. Tons here for any fan of Gundam or Dynasty Warriors.
