Summary

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood transports players from a ravaged Civil War-era Georgia to the Aztec ruins of Mexico. In the wildest West ever depicted, players can embody both McCall brothers in an intense storyline full of greed, lust and lawlessness that takes place during a legendary period of American history. Become a Gunslinger - Harness a variety of weapons from various revolvers to heavy-caliber cannons and machine guns. Every accurate shot increases concentration, which allows players to unleash deadly shooting modes when outnumbered and even deadlier ones when the brothers work together. Dual Collaborative Gameplay - Players choose to embody Ray or Thomas, each with a distinctive gameplay style (close or long range), specific abilities (lasso, dynamite, etc.) and arsenal of deadly weapons (dual guns, long-range carbine, etc.). Take advantage of each of their strengths and join in the fiercest fights imaginable. Never Before Seen Western Experience - Experience the iconic settings full of outlaws - the West before it was tamed. The McCall brothers face a renegade Apache Chief, a greedy Mexican bandit, a vindictive Colonel, and others, all driven by greed with moral disregard. Enjoy a wide variety of situations, using horses, canoes and wagons to explore the vast natural landscapes of the fabled Wild West and its legendary period. Innovative Online Multiplayer - Developed in unison with the single player mode, multiplayer offers numerous modes and maps, resulting in endless hours of Wild West mayhem. Gunslingers, bandits and marshals struggle online for the bounty. Multiple characters are unlocked for team-based objective modes or the straightforward team death match. With a new Bounty system, players increase the bounty on their head with more kills. Get rid of the deadliest among you to increase your bank roll. [Ubisoft]

With Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, Techland delivered us an experience worthy of the best Sergio Leone movies: one on one duels and saloon brawls recall to our memory some of the best movies ever seen. A solid story coupled with excellent visuals make the game very enjoying, while on the cons side we find some difficulty spikes that make some scenes quite frustrating.

The environments are lush and lively; I'll never forget leaning against a tree and being startled by a tarantula crawling across the bark an inch away, or the time I had my rifle poked over a boulder in a tense standoff, and a butterfly landed right in front of my face, only to fly away when my opponent shot at me.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is much better than its predecessor in all areas. The gameplay is well balanced, the duality of the gameplay works well and can give you reasons to play the game at least twice. The action is more intense, the scenery changes very frequently, and some sequences differ significantly from competition. Some players will find some choices limiting, such as the inability to use at will the cooperative actions, but we can assure you that the level of quality of the design and pressing action, tend to make you forget the substantial linearity.

But none of those gripes can compare to the biggest crime committed here: no co-op! In a game that focuses more than a little on the exploits of two seemingly inseparable brothers, why would we not be able to bring a friend down the dusty trail? That absence is completely inexcusable, and the addition of pointless, paint-by-numbers competitive multiplayer only adds insult to injury.

Jim D gave it a5:
Where is the co-op play! The structure of this game begs for that option. Two brothers, two players, to me, that is a very simple concept. I can play either brother, but not both together. I also found the 'draw' ending to the missions annoying and poorly implemented. Unless it was intentional, I found the controls acted differently from session to session. The predictable storyline was not very innovative.

Adam C gave it an8:
I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I rented it, which is what I suggest all gamers to do because the game is quite short, but what it does do, it does right. While the graphics lack sheen, they're more than acceptable, the gameplay is great fun, and never truly frustrating... And... Was I the only one who thought the ending was Heart-wrenching?

Barry N. gave it a10:
I felt compelled to write a short review of this came after reading the average reviews on Metacritic. I urge anyone who is considering buying this game to do so, it is an addictive game with unbelievably good graphics. It has a very enjoyable multiplayer that you will spend hours playing. Please don't listen to those negative reviews, they clearly didn't spend enough time on the game to truly enjoy the atmosphere and appreciate the time and effort put into the game by the developers. You most certainly will not regret buying this amazing, niche game.

Steve S. gave it a4:
This game is solidly in my top 5 worst game stories of all time. It's one thing to have no story, or a bad story. But to pretend that you're writing something important when you're writing absolute garbage is something different entirely. The only twists you can't see coming are because they're so incredibly stupid that they're impossible to see. I would be shocked if more than 1% of the people playing the game couldn't see exactly how the game would end after the first minutes of the opening cutscene. It's THAT cliched. The gameplay isn't anything special, either. Typical FPS, but this one's set in a Western atmosphere. I'd really like for someone to actually get this right at some point, because the setting of the West offers interesting potential. There's an unacceptable amount of draw-in and pop-in, and EVERY SINGLE MISSION AND SIDE MISSION ending in the game's botched quick-draw duel system is beyond horrible. Hang 'em high, boys.

Donna M gave it a10:
You’re Bound to love it. Before you roll your eyes at me, just ignore my bad pun and know that the humor in the game works much better :-) Part comedy, part Western, part shooter, this game has a lot going for it and a decent bit to live up to. Juarez 1 was loads of fun, it’s good to see that BiB lives up to and even surpasses what made the first game so good. If you liked the first, this will floor you. If you didn’t like the first, maybe it’s time to give this series another chance.

Lloyd gave it a9:
Great single player campaign, totally different when played with each brother. Multiplayer is superb aswell, just like Call of Duty but obviously set in the Old West. Wild West Legends is a fantastic game mode.

Sean G gave it a9:
Amazingly fun game, and probably the best western shooter I've played. Compelling storyline, with likable ( and dis-likable characters ) will draw you into the game and make you want to keep playing it through to the end. About 6-8 hours of single player, but just long enough to tell the story. Could have done with slightly smarter AI, and leaving out cooperative mode was a mistake, as the entire game is centered around two protagonists side by side.
