ESRB Rating: M (Mature)

Release Date: November 8, 2005

Summary

SOCOM offers fans of the multi-million selling franchise all-new single-player and wireless multiplayer gaming missions in four different Areas of Operation (AO). Players are tasked with completing 14 unique, realistic international single-player missions, including Chile, which is a unique AO only available in the PSP release. As the SEAL commander, the player is supported by an AI teammate executing traditional SOCOM team-based tactical, stealth and action gameplay. After successfully completing a level, players can replay the mission in an entirely new way through the "Instant Action" option, with different objectives, enemy and object placement. In addition, multiple players are able to form clans and take on their friends for team based high-action gameplay in SOCOM Fireteam Bravo via a Wi-Fi connection. [SCEA]

Far from a watered-down PS2 port, Fireteam Bravo provides a full-on FPS gaming experience on the PSP, with some multiplayer and connectivity features thrown in for good measure.

Like Cereal, Fireteam Bravo can be had at any course of the day no matter the event. Though the graphical glitches may leave the player dissatisfied with the quality, there is nothing wrong and you have to understand that it was made that way for a longer gameplay experience to benefit from.

Despite a couple minor complaints and a steep learning curve, Fireteam Bravo is easily the best game of its type on the PSP.

Gaming Horizon

Zipper Interactive managed to create very smooth, simple controls for a unit without a second analog nub (a minor miracle), and brought along all the SOCOM visual treats and gameplay nuances that fans of the genre crave, and the PSP enabled them to do this all in style.

Game Over Online

The best shooter on the PSP to date, if not one of the best titles on the system itself. A solid single player campaign and a robust multiplayer experience round out Fireteam Bravo.

Fire Team Bravo is amazing simply because it's broken through first. The team at Zipper have done an admirable job of shrinking their larger-than-life, third-person shooter package onto a PSP without losing much in the translation.

Fireteam Bravo is a slightly flawed gem, but it’s a gem nonetheless and its gameplay online and off shines bright enough on the PSP’s widescreen to capture the hearts and minds of the SOCOM faithful and all PSP gamers who have been long starved of first-class gaming entertainment.

With 16 players via either Ad-Hoc or Infrastructure mode, the game has excellent potential for a very long-term multiplayer lifespan. The singleplayer aspect is great as well, and with the addition of the Instant Action mode, also has quite a long life for itself.

Easily the best single-player shooter on the PSP, but of course there aren't that many available. [Jan 2006, p.82]

Computer and Video Games

But make no mistake, the single-player game isn't where SOCOM excels. The gameplay is linear and basically involves moving from one checkpoint to the next, with the strategy required being fairly minimal. It's more like a prolonged training mission for the real action found in the superb multiplayer mode. [PSW]

It doesn't offer the same mission or weapon variety as its big brothers, but its portability and wireless multiplayer more than make up for those shortcomings. And like its counterpart on the PlayStation 2, it's one of the best first-person shooters for the PSP to date.

Electronic Gaming Monthly

Online is a blast, but I think the new targeting system limits its long-term value; while the automatic lock-on keeps aiming smooth in the solo campaign, in multiplayer it removes two of the series' most enjoyable aspects: precision shooting and the use of camouflage.

The whole package is undeniably ambitious and for the most part Zipper Interactive has pulled it off, but the complex controls combined with the dumbed down aiming make it less impressive as a game than its PlayStation 2 cousins.

While it's not as fully fleshed out and doesn't offer as much of a challenge as the PS2 version, the developers have put a huge emphasis on making this game as pick up and play as possible and shortened the missions to accommodate play on the go, which it does very well.

Justin D. gave it a5:
This game is to hard to control giving yur teammates orders its to complicating actually really complicating....same with the other ones and the newest one that game out I got so frustrated it unbeleive able i mean i barely got passed the first mission but still why make it so hard for teen's i understand maybe making it adult or something for me its just confusing next time u make a game like this give better instructions and way more easier missions like its just so complicating and hard to understand the first misssion i was sitting and thinking for one hour well whatever next MAKE A EASIER SOCOM VS NAVY SEALS.

Trae H. gave it a9:
It could have been better by making it easier to unlock the players and guns but other than that the game is perfect I give it a whoppin 9.

Mike H. gave it a10:
A good overall game but without the online play this game would only deserve a 8.5 or a 9. Great buy.

Alec B. gave it a10:
This game in my opinon is the best game that was made for the PSP. I play this game online everyday afterschool and in school because this game kicks so much ass. If you have not purchased this game already go to the nearest electronic store like Bestbuy or Circuit City and buy it because you will not regret it.

CODY BONE gave it a10:
It is great, some people think Syphon Filter is better but Socom is the best game for PSP ever!

Mike G. gave it a7:
I never really felt comfortable with the controls, aiming is either spray and pray, or tap and hope. It IS a beautiful game though, one of the best shooters so far.

Tony S. gave it a10:
this game is awesome, it has the greatest online play ever.
