Summary
MotorStorm's next mission is battling the frozen wasteland of Alaska's Arctic Edge. MotorStorm Arctic Edge delivers brutal off-road racing in the beautiful yet lethal and unpredictable setting of Alaska. With temperatures plummeting, sudden avalanches, broken ice bridges, and three different racing altitudes, Arcitc Edge is the most inhospitable environment in the franchise's history. In addition to the six vehicle classes from the original MotorStorm, two new vehicles (the Snowcat and Snow Machine) have been introduced to combat the ice, the cold and the snow. One has the power and size to blast through packed snow, while the other has the grip and pace to combat most of what the sub-zero conditions can throw at it. MotorStorm Arctic Edge is fit for single player action, online multiplayer or playing with friends; two to eight players can compete against each other wirelessly via Ad Hoc Mode on PSP. Alternatively, you can also compete via online multiplayer using Infrastructure Mode on PSP to make it to the summit of the online global leaderboards.

The bottom line here is that somehow, someway, Bigbig Studios managed to create a Motorstorm game on a handheld system that stands up to the PS3 versions in almost every single way.

I'm gonna sum it the same way I started; all of the character and charisma that you enjoy about the Motorstorm franchise is captured with vivid exactness in Arctic Edge... That should speak for itself.

Above all else, Arctic Edge still feels like a MotorStorm game. While that won't do much to rope in an otherwise ignorant or uninterested consumer base, fans of the series should be positively delighted with how well the portable entry turned out.

The best racing action you can find out there! If you don’t buy it, it is your own fault!

MotorStorm: Arctic Edge has got everything its PS3 brother has. Power to the PSP.

This is MotorStorm, in its entirety, in a wholly new setting but without losing anything that made the series so damn fun on the PS3. Without a doubt, this is one of the best racing games you can find on the PSP. Go buy it.

A seriously impressive entry on a portable that has already wowed with full-featured racers, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge is exactly what you expect from the franchise without sacrificing anything.

MotorStorm: Arctic Edge for the PSP is great. There's no two ways about it. It does everything that the console games have been doing for years now, with the one and only difference being the visual sacrifice. But even still, it's a damn good looking PSP game.

All in all, this is a great title, not only for the PSP, but in general. Players will really enjoy all the polish that has gone into the game, the quality tracks, the different vehicles, the varied game modes, multiplayer and leaderboard support, all the unlockables, etc.

MotorStorm: Arctic Edge is the best arcade racer to hit the PSP platform, and is a fine addition to the already quality franchise that was born on the PS3.

MotorStorm: Arctic Edge is not without its flaws: the tracks will bore you sooner or later, some vehicles behave too similarly, the upgrades are purely cosmetic, objectives and modes are few and far between. But BigBig succeeded in conveying the excitement of an extreme snow race, while maintaining nice visuals and the freedom of MotorStorm.

MotorStorm has lost little in its transition to the PSP. Arctic Edge may not have the eye-popping HD visuals of its PS3 counterparts, but it continues the franchise's frenzied attitude, which makes for a great racer on the go.

Bigbig Studios did a great job of shrinking the great MotorStorm gameplay and feature set for MotorStorm: Arctic Edge, making it one of the better console transitions to the PSP so far. With the deep Festival and online modes, the package is worth the $40 for what is probably the best racing game for the PSP this holiday season.

Despite the bland racing-modes you will find many hours of entertainment in this game. Arctic Edge takes the pole position when it comes to racing games on the PSP.

Motorstorm: Arctic Edge on PSP is just as we expected it: an arcade racer, very spectacular and durable, given the huge number of races and the presence of online multiplayer. The lack of next gen graphics is certainly hard to swallow for the series, but it was done everything possible to make a good job on PSP.

The reckless racing style of Arctic Edge is certainly suiting for racing on the go, and the fact that Bigbig managed to fully retain the spirit of MotorStorm is truly commendable.

It's loud, it's ludicrous and more importantly, it's a huge laugh. [Nov 2009, p.110]
SpazioGames
Arctic Edge Motorstorm has managed to miniaturize the whole adrenalinic arcade saga without losing a single element of those who have made this a winning formula. The problem rather is to be found in the absolute absence of novelty, but it is really difficult for a fan being disappointed. Players will find many races to compete in the festival mode, an excellent online, an immediate and handling control system and races designed with style. The next time you might expect something new, but to be the first release of this brand on the small PSP, you certainly can not complain.

That Big BIg Studios have managed to squeeze an experience previously only available on the Playstation 3 into your pocket is a genuine marvel – Motorstorm: Arctic Edge is feature rich, beautifully polished, graphically ambitious and, above all else, retains the oil, smoke and tears that fans know and love.

Arctic Edge is a great achievement on the PSP. The developer has managed to maintain what made the first two games in the series so popular, yet resisted simply giving people a cut down version of what they've already played.
Arctic Edge is one of the best driving games for the PlayStation Portable, despite not being perfect and not having a so-well-looking graphic engine, that's lacking a more in-depth development of the vehicles that the games presents. Besides this aspect, the newest MotorStorm is a good example of how to adapt an impressive driving game into a handheld experience without losing its credentials.

All in all, Bigbig Studios has made a good PSP game. It’s not as good as its big brothers on the PlayStation 3, but it brings a complete racing experience to the handheld. Above all, it gives you bundles of fun, despite some mistakes, such as the nitrous boost and the difficulty at the beginning of the game.

A well executed handheld version of MotorStorm but not the most exciting PSP racer. [Dec 2009, p.63]
GamesNation
What really hits you while playing at MotorStorm: Arctic Edge is the intense sense of speed, and the fact that it’s all happening on a PSP! This is a fun-to-play porting game, but as such it has also some limits: both the graphics and the AI are the victims the overall sense of velocity.

Arctic Edge is a massive challenge and in no small part raises the technical bar for handheld racers. [Issue#184, p.75]
GameSpy
Arctic Edge is a good portable racer, but I didn't find the tracks varied enough to keep my attention for more than a few minutes at a time. But hey, with an arcade-style racer like this, that's pretty much all you need -- and at least it's not costing you quarters each time.

My biggest objection to Arctic Edge is also what I most like about the game: it’s the same old Motorstorm in pocket-sized form, a solid “diet” reissue of a sensationally stupid racer.

If muddy textures and a somewhat garish palette are the trade-off for involving track design and vehicular carnage, then it's a compromise we're happy to accept. [Dec 2009, p.102]
Eurogamer
However, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge has inherited a few too many of its predecessor's weaknesses as well: a lumpy single player campaign, some arbitrary physics made more noticeable by the less sophisticated engine, and a tendency for the less inspired tracks to merge into one grimy muddle.

Motorstorm Arctic Edge is close to the Playstation 3-titles with not so much news except from the icy feeling. But it´s a well done game that could entertain for many hours. Actually it´s a lot better than the last game for Playstation 3 and if you want to drive a car in winter landscapes, this is both the funniest and safest way to do that.

Motorstorm Arctic Edge is a beautiful, entertaining and challenging. The presentation is phenomenal and the actual racing is as exiting and it is entertaining, but somewhat shoddy controls and strange physics are two issues that keeps this title from earning our highest praise.

Arctic Edge looks good for MotorStorm’s first appearance on the PSP, but gone are the days when I can be impressed with simply squeezing down a console title intact onto a handheld. Let’s ask for more so we can get more.

For those who only now has the opportunity to put their hands on this series I would say that is well worth it. But if they are already veterans in this universe, looking at Arctic Edge as a direct sequel that aims to be like going from horse to donkey.

It's hard not to be a little disappointed with MotorStorm: Arctic Edge -- it plays just like its siblings on the PS3, and I mean just like its siblings. While that's likely good enough for many, the "been there, done that" feel of the game means that it gets old quickly.

It looks and plays just like the PS3 games, but alas this is just as pedestrian in terms of innovation.

Concept created for the PS3 doesn’t work that good on the small PSP display. Still Motorstorm is nice racing arcade – only some things should not be made smaller. [Oct 2009]

Mike S gave it a9:
An excellent achievement, especially when you consider the PSP's limitations. I still think the original Motorstorm is the best in the series though
James D gave it an8:
Arctic Edge is an explosive portable racer with as much lust and wildness that the console versions had. The graphics are great as well. The only problem is the familiarity of it all but hey, don't fix what ain't broken right? all i'm saying is that it's mostly familiar.
Munx 13 gave it a10:
I wanted to give a 9.5, but there is no such option. It's just an amazing game with very little flaws. Good to play at home and ever better on the go.
Razor gave it a10:
Bought it from the store a couple of weeks back and i'm extremely pleased with it :) kudos to BigBig Studios, i can't believe i'm saying this, but i actually enjoyed it more than Pacific Rift..maybe the fact that the Festival events are perfect for playing on the go contributed to that feeling. Massive replayability, loads of fun(outstanding livery customization!) and every bit as good as the PS3 version, this is hands-down the best PSP game i've bought thus far.
Dennis gave it a9:
Fantastic achievement plays great, looks amazing and well worth buying,
Robin Guy gave it a10:
the best racer on psp, better than pacfic rift, i cant stop playing it.
