Summary
SingStar has gone pop crazy, bringing a collection of tracks guaranteed to get your feet moving to PS3. Voice Control makes it easier than ever to line up your favourites. Simply speak the name of the song you want to sing to go straight to it with no fuss. It even works when browsing the SingStore. Included on the disc is an eclectic collection of chart-toppers from all genres and eras, such as Rehab by Amy Winehouse, Chris De Burgh’s Lady In Red and the Bon Jovi classic, Livin’ On A Prayer. Voice Control makes it quicker and easier than ever to jump into your favourite song. The varied track list includes classics and modern greats, from all genres of music. Pick up a pair of SingStar Wireless Microphones and turn your party into an unplugged session. [SCEE]

SingStar Pop Edition is a fantastic addition to the SingStar series, and more than a worthwhile purchase for any PS3 owner with a mind for parties. Wireless microphones certainly won't be enough to convince people to buy $700 [AU] worth of console, but for those thinking about getting a Blu-Ray player plus a games console, this might be the proverbial straw.

There are some nice new features, new songs, slightly temperamental voice control and great wireless microphones, but it’s still utterly brilliant. Long live the current king of social embarrassment and karaoke: SingStar.

While the track listing isn’t the strongest, there are enough new features here to keep things fresh and feeling like a PS3 version of SingStar rather than a polished PS2 port.

SingStar Pop Edition is arguably the best release on PS3 since the original due to focusing on one genre of music, even if the inclusion of some songs seems a bit superfluous.

With the new wireless microphones, voice commands and an increasing amount of songs on the SingStore, SingStar: Pop Edition manages to make sure that this now 5 year old karaoke game isn't overtaken by its more instrument centric competitors. This may change soon, so we're hoping that SCEE don't rest on their laurels and continue developing the series.

Sure, it’s a valiant effort to return to the less themed track packs, hoping to appeal a little bit to everyone, but there are too many songs in here that I just won’t sing more than once, are already on the SingStore, or on a previous disc to give a full hearted recommendation to.

Are you a SingStar fan? Then buy this game! Are you new to this franchise? This is a nice version to get to know the karaoke game better. The tracklist is very strong with recent numbers, but there are definitely some good oldies in there as well!

Unlike some other collections, this one has a bit of depth to it, too – a lot of the “B” songs are fairly decent, so hopefully you find some that surprise you. Of course, there are also a fair number of stinkers, but I’m sure everyone will disagree as to which tracks are the worst.

It's hard to give SingStar Pop the right rating because it contains few interesting songs but, on the other hand, gives players a decent working voice command system. And thus making SingStar Pop, in combination with the wireless microphones, a high quality product. With this in mind, just subtract [twenty] points for the lousy tracklist and you'll get the final score.

There are few reasons for fans to pick this up. [June 2009, p.76]

The tracklist tries to offer something for everyone, and thus spreads itself too thinly. [July 2009, p.97]

Since this Singstar expansion is nothing more than an addition of British pop songs the quality of this title depends on your personal taste in music. But as an expansion this is a big disappointment with no new features and a the worst collection of songs we've seen in an expansion thus far.
