Summary
Elven Legacy, the sequel to Fantasy Wars, delivers a world filled with magic and thrilling nonlinear storyline, gauged to provide many hours of gameplay for strategy fans. Through an epic quest aimed to restore the former glory of the Elven race the game offers both depth and scope, all in colorful and inspirational settings. Play for elves or humans in two primary campaigns or for orcs in a wide variety of bonus missions. Using the accompanying tools players may create their own missions and campaigns and share them in multiplayer mode. [1C Company]

Pelit (Finland)
Elven Legacy, like its predecessor Fantasy Wars warms the heart of everybody who has played Fantasy General. General game system is far superior to dominating Heroclones of Might & Magic. Game could even interest Joe Public with less garish, more realistic graphics. [Mar 2009]
2404.org
Half the fun of this game is building an effective, focused force piece by piece using artifacts and levels-up, as well as shrewd tactical choices.

Elven Legacy’s main strength is its ability to be either a tactical or RPG-focused game, which both the campaign and single scenarios play to.

By (re)introducing some of the original ideas that never made it into Fantasy Wars, Elven Legacy became even more captivating than its predecessor.

Small but fine changes such as a traceable story enforce Elven Legacy a higher entertainment factor than its direct predecessor Fantasy Wars. Weaknesses in the area of not more contemporary graphics or KI strategies are compensated through exciting fights.

One of those titles that is made for the hardest of the hardcore strategy fan: the depth and the replayability of the game is striking, and you'll find that upgrading your soldiers, trying to unlock bonus levels and exploiting every map can keep you busy for a very long time.

A generic turn-bases fantasy strategy game that is far too difficult for beginners. That begin said, experts and players with a taste for anti-heroes will find a pretty streamlined experience in a not-so-politically-correct world.

Elven Legacy is not a bad game by all means, but its high difficulty will most likely drive away the casual gamer looking for a relaxing turn based strategy.

Fans of the SRPG genre looking for something nicely slow-paced will find the game perfectly satisfactory, if not necessarily particularly special.

Elven Legacy is the classic turn-based strategy game, flavored with a touch of good role-playing. Released as a continuation of Fantasy Wars, you don't need the original game in order to play it. This game combines two styles of play that have proved to work perfectly, and put them in a well built fantasy world. Although it could hardly compete against the masters of the genre like Total War or Civilization series, it won't be weird if we were to meet future releases of this new series. Elven Legacy assures us several hours of fun featuring elves and many other creatures or monsters, rich colored graphics and a nice background story.

Fact is, Elven Legacy doesn’t push any envelopes or try to add some fancy new twist to the genre. It’s generic in almost every conceivable way.

The streamlined gameplay lets vets focus on battle strategies and clearing maps with the best possible ratings, while less experienced players can wade through the game without being terribly bogged down by having to micromanage lots of minutia. Elven Legacy is by no means an amazing game, but it's a strong follow-up to Fantasy Wars and not a bad way to spend a rainy afternoon.

This offers sufficient substance and challenge in a nostalgic, turn-based package reminiscent of the earlier days of gaming. [June 2009, p.99]
Gamer Limit
The gameplay will really make you ponder your next set of moves, but it is very challenging and probably only appeal to the most fervent of strategy fans.

Now, if you are a fan of turn based strategy gaming then this is the game for you, especially if you were a fan of Fantasy Wars. This is fun and it is even a better game than Fantasy Wars was so fans of Turn Based Strategy games should buy this, but if you are un-sure a game like this is something you will enjoy then wait for the demo or download the demo for Fantasy Wars and see if this type of game appeals to you.

From what I understand, Ino-Co is going to add more campaigns and missions in the future, and so possibly the game will eventually work well and be worthwhile if you stick with it. But in the meantime, I wouldn’t really recommend Elven Legacy unless it receives a bargain bin price and you really like tactical strategy games.

This is a slightly above average strategy title that offers some good strategic gameplay. However, many players won’t stick with it because of the difficulty of finishing the missions from about the middle game onward. I enjoy a challenge as well as the next player, but I don’t enjoy utter failure time and time again.

Fair turn-based strategy is more hardcore then in seems at first sight. Fans of the series Heroes of Might and Magic will recognize many similarities. [May 2009]
PC PowerPlay
With an impressive AI, clever campaign and focus on gameplay, Elven Legacy is well worth the asking price. [Aug 2009, p.59]
PC Zone UK
That Elven Legacy is so badly presented is a shame, as there's a surprisingly good strategy game hidden underneath the amateurish exterior. [July 2009, p.75]
Boomtown
Fans of turn Russian developer 1C's Fantasy Wars title will feel at home here and novice players may be attracted by its simplicity and omission of in-depth resource management, but Elven Legends does little to break new ground in its genre.
Due to its familiarity and the fact that there are not a vast number of additions to Elven Legacy over the original Fantasy Wars - the only really new things are the Elves and mission choices - I cannot really recommend Elven Legacy to players of Fantasy Wars.

If you’re a hardcore turn-based strategy fan, feel free to disregard this review and seek out the opinion of someone more schooled in the genre. But if, like me, you’re a novice in the genre and have been taken in by Elven Legacy’s promise of a gentle welcome, then keep well away. You’ll only end up getting hurt.

Elven Legacy is mercifully conservative in its design, though it does not seem to be executed as smoothly as it should have been. With more time in development, future releases for the series should turn out to be more entertaining.

Plodding, bland fair. [July 2009, p.95]
Thunderbolt
The whole notion of a scored review seems a little arbitrary in the face of the niche and dedicated fanbase this game will attract, and its attempts at populist window-dressing are virtually pointless because for the rest of us, the whole entity is at its most lenient completely mystifying, and at its most uncompromising utterly impenetrable.

Dean D. gave it an8:
This reminds me so much of a few classic Amiga titles of yester year which is by no means a bad thing. The more you play this the more you will appreciate it,the story is good and gets your imagination flowing. This title is really good if your new to this genre and gets you involved although more experienced gamers of fantasy and roleplaying may want something more robust but for the novice this is more than enough. Having multiple endings is a very good plus point and will ensure you'll be playing this for sometime to come, has a good and involving story, with just wanting to see what happens next, good sound and graphics, good characters. We've all seen a few classic fantasy movies and wanted to play the part of a hero well now you can but are you up to the task, play this and you won't be disappointed, I'm loving it anyway.
