nothing will ever come close .

Russell W gave it a10:
I started watching The Wire because I'd heard enough to make me think it could be on a par with The Sopranos. It turned out to be on another plane entirely, head and shoulders above any other TV drama ever. Season 4 turns its attention to the inner-city public school system and, perhaps more than in any other aspect of the entire series, this can make for some depressing viewing. Even Charles Dickens, in his most Dickensian aspect, would have gone a lot easier on his audience. Of course there are eventually some redemptive moments but these barely compensate for the preceding bleakness. But you don't (I hope) watch The Wire to be uplifted but to be *involved*. And, if you give the show the attention it deserves, it will involve you like nothing else on television before or, probably, after.

Ian H. gave it a10:
The Best Season of the wire, in my opinion.

Sam A gave it a10:
Yes, its 10 out of 10, the critics finally got it right, and there really isn't anything that comes close. The only bad thing about the wire, is that it absolutely ruins network television, its just so much better than anything.

Chris B gave it a10:
Entertainment perfection. If you love drama, comedy, character interaction, script writing, plot developing or any combination of any of them you will not find anything better than The Wire. The best entertainment I have ever seen, regardless of movies, TV, comedy, etc, this is entertainment of the very highest order. I've seen the best cinema, theatre, music, etc has to offer. This beats all of 'em Y' feel me.

cee j gave it a10:
Most intense TV season ever. So, so heavy. Heaviest of all the seasons--drags you down, down into a place better than heaven. I might have an ulcer, but the compassion and education I've gained makes it worth it.

Daniel P gave it a10:
Brilliant.

Heman gave it a10:
Literature, journalism and poetry all come together in a show that is layered in its message, fierce in its plot and portrayal and reeks of realism that is devoid in Hollywood. This type of gripping and profoundly educational entertainment is rare!

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
This is my all time favorite show, without a shadow of a doubt. Perfection.

Abhinav R gave it a10:
After watching every season of The Wire, Season 4 has to be my favourite. Although it started out a bit slow, by the "2.5th" episode, I was captivated. I didn't have high hopes for this season because of the lack of Barksdale characters but the introduction of the school system and political campaigning was enough to make this the best season of any show ever. If somebody could only watch one TV show, I would highly recommend The Wire.

Matthias W gave it a10:
The hype doesn't do it justice. "The Wire" is not only the best thing on television, but an amazing, heartbreaking work of art.

Esgo G gave it a9:
Controversy incarnated. Everything you do not approve of, you will love in the Wire. As realistic as real life thanks to some great slang, actors and on location shooting. My HBO favorite!

Peter W. gave it a10:
just watch it!!!!!

Greg F. gave it a10:
Best TV series I have ever watched.

John Pf gave it a10:
Without a doubt, the finest show on television. I went from modestly enjoying it during the first season, to being in awe in the fourth. Its a work of art.

Craig S. gave it a10:
Never has a police drama had such developed and interesting characters. The series has the touch of a craftsman aging from series to series, constantly building on the immersion - without resorting to ill placed "surprise!" moments, and plot twists that detract from the realism. The beauty of the story, in my opinion, is how slowly they introduce Baltimore and its residents to the viewer. It's very rare that a non-period drama will actually leave the audience to feel the story out for themselves, instead of pointing to characters and saying "sympathise with this man" or "condemn this act". Educated and accurate drama for the viewer fed up of superman-cop shows.

Tim E. H gave it a7:
The series is broad in scope, and it deals with a timely and a necessary subject, but at times, the acting and the writing don't do justice to the topic.

Brian C. gave it a10:
The best season of the best show to grace television since its invention. With the character development and story line leading up to this season, it is doubtful a better work of art will be created in a hundred years.

Wes M. gave it a10:
Launch this show into outer space with every satellite from now on. This is early 21st century humanity.

The second best season of the best television show ever made. Attention David Simon - Please get back to work!

Derry F gave it a10:
The Wire is the finest piece of media I've ever encountered; the ambition and bravery of the writers shines through every scene. What's the best thing about The Wire? Omar Little - his appearances are worth every second of plot movement.

Jean-Marc P. gave it a10:
I've been watching The Wire three episodes a day on average for two weeks now, and I do hate TV! What will I do next, I don't know and I fear it a little. Will probably see more of my friends. Anyway, the best ever...

Annemarie K. gave it a10:
Fantastic, a brilliant drama that gets to the heart of the issues surrounding drugs and crime.

Outstanding..addictive with a capital A. The most intense absorbing series I have ever seen..I hope it goes on for ever cause I will go into withdrawal when it finishes.

I have only watched one season, but it is an amazing show - writing & acting are so far above the usual stuff on television. This is art!

I am a white 55 year old Canadian. I have only started watching this show on DVD, due to the critical buzz. It is without doubt, the greatest achievement in tv history. Utterly compelling, brilliant writing and acting, America as it is with all of its warts and hopes. I cannot believe that this show has not been given its due, outside of the critics. I have to believe that the vast majority of the public is not able to watch something so real and true, and esp. with the majority of the cast being afro-american. This show is so well done that within the first episode, we forget color and just see people we can feel awe, pity, hope for. A magnificent achievement.

One word: BRILLIANT

Literally the best piece of entertainment I've ever experienced. The very first scene of the season, in particular, is beyond incredible. The last scene of the second to last episode brought me to uncontrollable tears.

Greatest piece of television history.

Fabrizio P. gave it a10:
The best drama in the history of american television.

At this point it's like standing in an echo chamber. 'The Wire' is THE BEST show ever produced in the television medium. A remarkable, dense series that is the rare television program that approaches the level of art. Hyperbole? Absolutely not. 'The Wire' captures the zeitgeist better than any other program (or film for that matter).

M T gave it a10:
The most ambitious television series of all time: the depth of the story telling and sheer number of characters and their interplay throughout the series is what makes 'The Wire' so astounding. Never have I seen a show so richly nuanced, so true to life and so unflinchingly honest. And on top of all of this, The Wire remains entertaining for those who stick with it, with writing that runs the gamut from hilarity one moment to bleak pathos and despair the next. In spite of all of this I can see why the series never did well commercially: It is not intended for the casual viewer. Heavy subject matter aside, to appreciate the series, one really has to see it from the very beginning and digest every episode for the pieces to really fit together. Now that the majority of the series is available on DVD, that really is the best format to watch it in. I watched the first 4 seasons back-to-back and can't imagine having to wait every week between episodes.

Wes M. gave it a10:
Fine viewing; chock full of insights but not as realistic a depiction of its subjects as it purports to be.

Sean R. gave it a10:
Truly fantastic show, the likes of which we will never see again.

Bob R gave it a10:
This is the best television show that I have ever watched. I agree with others on this site that it occasionally approaches great literature with wonderful character building, revealing detail, and even symbolism. The nuanced approach to its realistic depiction of our cities is mind boggling.

Omar L. gave it a10:
Such a shame that this show was cancelled. The Absolute greatest show of all time on television, with this Season begin the best (with Season 2 being a close 2nd). Deep, moving, and sad. A Must-watch

Stacey S. gave it a10:
I love everything about this show! It was extremely thought provoking, each character and storyline was captivating, and best of all, it was REAL. I was hooked and watched all 5 season in 3 months.

Sean L. gave it a10:
TwentyOne Spicer: Nice job revealing details of the 5TH SEASON, to which this page is not dedicated. The Wire does not glorify "child killers"; the heartache you feel when a character is murdered should make that perfectly clear. This season is, in all honesty, the closest any writer or director has ever come to television perfect.

Alec M. gave it a10:
The Sopanos was good (I love it), but in comparison to The Wire it's an overweight soap opera. Stunning in its vision, TV has never been this good.

Phil P. gave it a10:
The "Ulysses" of television. Difficult, but ultimately rewarding beyond words!

R H. gave it a10:
It did what it set out to do every week shock and awe with the truth.

TwentyOne Spicer gave it a5:
While the show does mimic real-life situations and circumstances, thus raising awareness and attention to the plight, conditions and environments that some people fall victim to (hopefully), the jury is not in on the direction or the societal message that these last couple of episodes that I have seen are portraying to the public, in particular, the youth. My concern is that the episodes where Omar is killed by like a 8- or 9-year old child, and the one where Michael kills Snoop, based on their outcomes, is in jeopardy of glorifying and almost promoting "child killers". I just know one thing, the writers better have some serious repercussions in store for the perpetrators. If not, it would definitely have to call into question the motives and moralities of this show's producers and writers. Hopefully, they will handle their business properly!

Josh W. gave it a10:
It is the best show ever. End of story.

Zachary R. gave it a10:
Quite possibly the best season of the best show ever produced.

Tim B. gave it a10:
Greatest show ever made. No show is as well acted and as perfectly put together. It is gritty, depressing, and realistic.

Fuzzy D. gave it a10:
When I watched the first episode of the first season, I was really confused. I had never been that confused in my life. Why the hell is Rawls mad at McNulty? Why is he giving him two middle fingers? What about that random dead dude? What is a buy - bust? What is a detail? What are the relationships between various police bosses? Why the hell am I watching this complicated crap? I thought about giving up, but I watched the next two episodes and rewatched all of them. I figured out how the police department worked, and from then on I've understood every single episode to the fullest without having to rewatch, and it is the most rewarding, enriching story I've ever seen. I could call it the best show on television, but that would be an understatement. I have read lots of famous literature by many a great author, but I've never been told a story in any form, TV, movie, book or play. as compelling or engrossing as The Wire. It is completely realistic in every sense. It has realistic acting. I never see any Kiefer Sutherland yelling or CSI sunglasses dude leaning on something and smirking. Just pure, realistic acting, except for Carver in the first two episodes of season four. Maybe some people like ridiculous overacting but I find it embarrassing to watch with someone else in the room. The Wire can also be gut - bustingly funny. It's not a comedy, so they don't have to force stupid, zany jokes at every corner- they can wait for perfect timing. The story lines are also totally realistic. That makes the show about a million times more powerful than anything else that you could watch and tell yourself, "ya know, this isn't real." Some argue that it's more of a documentary and not really fun to watch. I can only disagree and say that it is extremely entertaining. It's not like I watch it to educate myself on Baltimore's struggles. If the language, sex, violence or plot complexity upsets you to the point of not watching it, all I can say is that I'm very sorry for you. You are missing out on the most provocative, brilliant, and realistic story ever told.

Faizal K. gave it a10:
By far the best show on T.V it is a shame it has never won an Emmy, maybe it has something to do with the black roles on the show being just as important as any white actors role in the show. Just my opinion.

Freddie G. gave it a10:
One of the most well written and well acted shows I've ever seen!!!! Good job.

Noland A. gave it a10:
The wire is such a real show! People who don't enjoy the wire are just afraid to look in the mirror.

Caddy C gave it a10:
The Wire is hands down the greatest televsion series of all time. The Sopranos didn't even come close. Anyone who argues this point obviously knows very little about acting, scripting, editing or directing. This is perfection.

Satoshi K. gave it a10:
"The Wire" is a diamond, no other show even comes close.

David G gave it a10:
Best show on TV year after year.

Francis C. gave it a10:
The best television series ever made. I've watched the first four seasons three full times now; its a masterpiece. It might be decades before anything rivals The Wire.

Marge A gave it a10:
The best show on TV hands down. I mourned the loss of Homicide but The Wire surpasses even that brilliant show on a number of levels. Hopefully it will win a well-deserved and long overdue Emmy for writing.

Bertha A. gave it a10:
Doug Elfman (the Sun-Times guy) is an idiot. I was gonna hold off on reviewing season 4 until I'd seen the whole thing, but I just wanted to say that and refute his little blurb (the whole review link is dead, I think). Maybe it helps that I watch them back to back via DVD, but I've thought the pacing of every season (except maybe three, in spots) has been brilliant. I can't imagine someone being like, "come on, The Wire, get to the point already." If you don't have the patience for something to develop over a whole(!) season, Elfman, then you shouldn't be watching The Wire (or getting paid to review stuff). The Wire is all about details. I mean, the "first batch of episodes" has to establish the level of the kids' innocence so that the erosion of whatever is left of it becomes all that more important. And I mean actually establish something, not some Law & Order crap. I, myself, only have one bone to pick with what I've seen so far. At one point, one of the kids (the one with the ponytail) says that he'll take money as long as it's given out for free. Later on, the state senator says the exact same thing. I didn't like how on-the-nose this was. Part of The Wire's appeal is its realism; I thought this prod at the viewer to see a correlation between the street and W. Baltimore politics was too direct. Anyway, I think The Wire is a televised miracle. I can't believe I get the privilege of watching such an amazing show. How this got on television, I'll never be able to guess.

Colin B. gave it a10:
I have watched every season at least twice, and this by far is the best depiction of urban environments in the US today. To say this is the best show on TV does not even do it justice.

Green A. gave it a10:
So brilliantly acted that it boggles my mind. Where did they find such young actors who could act in such intensive, high tension scenes? Richly layered and somehow manages to develop the characters, symbolic progressions, social critique, and compelling plot all at once. This is almost unprecedented for a TV show!

Sean R. gave it a10:
Greatest show of all time. HOw this show has never won an Emmy astonishes me.

Sean W. gave it a10:
Easily the best show on television hands down... wow.

Lana S. gave it a10:
Brilliant writing, impressive directing, and spectacular acting. The greatest thing on television, period.

Daniel H. gave it a10:
Probably the closest thing to perfect you can get on TV. If you find yourself getting in to this show in it's censored version on BET, get the DVD's from a rental store or a library...there's no comparison.

T T gave it a10:
My vote for the best show on TV. TV can be so painfully melodramatic which makes The Wire so refreshing. Real people, real lives.

Paul D gave it a10:
This is the finest piece of media/literature that I have seen in my lifetime. Season 4 not only met my unrealistic expectations after the first 3 seasons, it surpassed them. For those who stick with it from the 1st episode of the 1st season they will be rewarded with a masterpiece. This is our modern cities, our modern institutions etc. played out in the mold of an epic Greek tragedy.

Daniel P. gave it a10:
Brilliant.

David P. gave it a10:
What Dostoyevsky did for literature, the wire has done for contemporary pop culture, and like Dostoyevsky appreciation was far more reserved until a later period. But, I like the show's status just as it is, though small, for those who watch it are constantly rewarded. A new day is not dawning in the city of Baltimore, the Barksdale's drug empire is no where to be seen, a new prince rules the streets (Marlo Stanfield), Mcnulty's back on the beat, Bunk is unable to convict a very guilty Omar for the stash house assassination, Carcetti struggles in the race for mayor, drug lieutenants Chris Partlow and Felicia "Snoop" Pearson are stacking up bodies quicker than a drop of a hat and four school kids are at risk from it all. There is always one outstanding feature with the wire that I have constantly admired, its storytelling. Unlike the more conventional "cop" dramas where cases are solved with in a fifty minute time frame, the wire takes it toll and very slowly. In season 1 the viewers were introduced to a drug syndicate known as the Barksdale's headed by the brash Avon Barksdale and the highly intelligent Stringer Bell. That particular story lasted an immense three seasons where the viewers grew with the characters laughs were disposed as were shocks and tears. Only one of the street characters from season 1 has remained, the self proclaimed and content soldier Bodie (JD Williams) who is not quite the same person without his crew he has become irritant and angry over Marlo Stanfield's unpredictable rulings and redundant leadership. There are only three members in Bodie's crew Lex, Little Kevin and Namond - the unruly and rowdy teenager whose story develops heavily over the course of the series. From Namond we met his friends Michael, Dukie and Randy who all become a primary focus for seaon 4's story. From the perspective of law enforcement this season we follow the breakdown of the major crimes unit. Lester has been reassigned to homicide as has Kima joining Bunk, Prez has bacome a school teacher, Herc remains in major crimes as does Sydnor though Mcnulty and Carver have both decided to work the streets. From the political aspect we follow Carcetti's rise to power and Royce's sheer will to stop him. from the drug perspective we see Marlo order more assassinations than you can count and in doing so he and his high ranking members (Chris and Snoop). Yet again this show proves that good does not triumph over evil infact between it all the only moral compass is the city of Baltimore no one ever wins in the long run. Bodie and his crew are killed one by one over the course of the season and it's utterly heart breaking until the final episode where Bodie has a moment of clarity realizing there is no way out and is prepared to be killed. The kids who start with their own agenda conclude to be completely opposite by the end. Happily Carcetti wins though in doing this his obsession for winning has alienated his long term friends an colleagues leaving him to be a very lonely king. The inner circle amongst the ranks of the police department becomes more and more distant. By the end Marlo Stanfield's paranoia grows so high that his methods of keeping safe are preposterous. The wire is as engrossing as it is distant as beautiful as it is ugly and as funny as it is tragic. you can't nibble at this show because you have to devour it.

Alexandros L. gave it a10:
Simon has transferred in his play the Balzac's core conception of the plot in which the characters while they seem to act on their own through a Darwinian battle, in fact they are pawns overwhelmed by the dominant forces of the society. A true masterpiece. Art.

zz t. gave it a7:
I don't get it. To me The Wire is massively overhyped. I enjoy watching it, but it feels like a glorified "The Shield". It lacks the dynamic and dramatic style of The Sopranos. The use of music is also more effective in Sopranos. Then there are pacing issues ... at times The Wire just prods along. Yea yea, we know, its praised for bringing social issues to the forefront and its "realistic" but I want to be entertained as well; sometimes its just like a documentary, a boring one at that. The Sopranos has its cerebral psychobabble moments with the flashbacks and the psychiatrist, but they are well balanced with lots of drama, sex, violence and excellent directing. Also, theres no comparison interms of individual acting achievements .. theres certainly no one as impressive as Falco, Gandolfini or Imperioli on The Wire. The Wire needs more scenes like the famous detective scene with Bunk and McNulty to balance the prodding multi-threaded drama that engulfs most of the episodes If you like slow, cerebral, cop shows, The Wire might be an interesting watch. Overall, you will get more bang for your buck from the far more well balanced Sopranos...certainly there are many more shocking and classic scenes in The Sopranos which will be etched in your memory forever. Rent seasons 1 and 2 of both the Sopranos and The Wire and do the comparison yourself.

This is more than just a television show, this is something more. Watching the wire sets a new standard that makes other shows seem ridiculous. The show is so good and so educational it should be shown in schools for teenagers. It describes it as it is, no bull, no happy ending, just reality. The wie is movie art as its best.

Hani Y. gave it a10:
Season 4 of The Wire happens to be the most emotional and the finest season so far. This is the most hard-hitting police drama ever to come to TV. The Wire makes every other show inferior and hopefully it will get the Emmys the show deserved for a long time now.

True dat. I'm from the UK and was tipped off on this. Unlike a lot of the 'top drawer' TV out there now this just gets better and better with each series. Apparently The Wire was written like a novel and series 5 will be the conclusion. How can anything ever better it?

I watch pretty much every show on TV that's worth watching, and this is undeniably the best. As true-to-life as TV can get, with far more reality than any "reality" show. Waiting for the fifth season to begin is torture, which will only get worse as I realize the hole The Wire will leave when it's gone.

Rich C gave it a10:
This is the show that makes all others insignificant. Season 4 is the best season yet of the most engrossing TV drama ever made. By the season's finale, you'll regard Namond, Dukie, Michael and Randy as your own children. The acting, plot, and especially the dialogue have simply never been bettered on TV.

One of the best filmed narratives ever produced ever. Delicately balanced. Finely observed. Intelligently executed. Sets itself apart from any other show on television.

The Mighty Shango gave it a9:
If a really RREALLY great novel could be televised this would be the result. The Wire's greatest strength is that not one inch of roll of film is wasted, every single scene has rellevance to the overall story. Narrative compression at its finest. Its only flaw is the producers/Writers are not experts at Cinematography, but that can be forgiven because the main focus is on the city of Baltimore and its failing institutions (the ports, the schools, the police, politics, healthcare, it goes on) which can be translated to any major modern metropolitan city worldwide.

anony mous gave it a10:
A show this good demonstrates how inadequate Nielsen Ratings are in determining a show's success. I wish it had a better time slot to begin with and that more people gave it a chance and not get thrown off by trivial things like esoteric slang and profanity, which in my opinion are very realistically portrayed. I hope that more cable TV channels (besides BET) will pick it up for syndication so that it gets more exposure. I'm no TV buff, but of all the TV shows I've seen, I feel this is the best yet. So highly rated, but definitely not backed by a large enough fan-base... On a positive note, I'm glad that it lasted 5 seasons and that David Simon claims there isn't enough material for a 6th season.

Michael B gave it a10:
While I wasn't too impressed with the first season, the following three seasons were absolutely brilliant. If you enjoy harsh cop dramas, don't overlook The Wire.

Jeff A gave it a10:
Why does this 'cop drama' differ from anything we have ever seen... first off, an entire season dedicated to 1 case instead of each episode being and open and closed case within an hour. This captures the viewers interest not only in the characters, but the case as well. And another reason it is different, and most importantly, it shows you 2-4 angles. We are not just seeing everything from the police's view, or the street's view. Everyone can relate/agree with motives of so much variety of character.

For you people saying this show is black explotation have obviously never seen it. It is a well written and directed drama about cops trying to hold a city together that is falling apart. It is trying to document the struggle of inner city baltimore and what it's like trying to survive. So far it's the only show that does that justice.

I,am from Baltimore! This is as real as it will ever get. The names have been changed but the people of Baltimore,(BALIMERE)no them well.

Tom gave it a10:
The best show ever, and hardly anyone knows about it.

Amy W gave it a10:
I just finished watching the season's run on my DVR. I didn't want the show to end! I loved how the show dealt with the children and their characters were so well developed.

Haile D gave it a10:
Best TV Drama show I have ever seen.

Patrick M gave it a10:
My favorite comment regarding the show: "If you're not watching The Wire, you should have your TV taken away." True that!!

Diana B gave it a10:
I love this show and can't wait for the next season to start, what is taking so long.

michael r gave it a10:
I did'nt watch the first two seasons of the wire thinking it would'nt interest me and then one night midway through season three I caught a episode and I was hooked. I am glad BET is showing the wire from the beginning so I can veiw from start to finish. Looking foward to season four.

tanya r gave it a10:
love this show cant wait for the season to start

Matt gave it a10:
Greatest show on tv period. It requires max attention but the payoffs are worth it.

Teresa W gave it a10:
I think this is one of the best shows that has come out in the past 10 years!!!

Terry G gave it a1:
Just another black exploitation modern day minstrial show. Making lots of money for the power structure while mascurading as some kind of new art form. Consider the negative effects on young black men. HBO does have a clue and sadly seems to lack morality as most of the rap industry. We have enough real life examples of the struggles of black people both urban and rural. Nothing entertaining or funny about decadence and the continued loss of real blackmen. Let me add, the cowboy hollywood law enforcement officers is just another silly and disrespectful ploy of your so-called writers..

elise m gave it a10:
As a public school teacher, I can verify that the wire is "right on target" in its depiction of what goes on in an inner city school.

Heather A gave it a10:
I have watched every season of The Wire since it first started and each one is better than the last. Being from Baltimore County I can really appreciate how well the story line and casting is. It is a rediculous that this show keeps getting passed over-extremely disapointing.

Rachel gave it a10:
Best show on tv, no question.

jOHN M gave it a10:
This show is REAL!

Josh C gave it a10:
"24" is a conservative's wet dream. For my money the best show on TV is "The Wire", but nobody watches it. There is not another show on TV that addresses the realities of race, work, manhood and urban life with the sweep and rigor of "The Wire" on HBO. "24", blistering as it is, is just flashy and empty. It's all lightning, no rain."The Wire" drenched me.

James W gave it a10:
The finest television show in history. I find that only people who wouldn't invest in a few episodes of the show can say it's not one of if the favorite show of all itme. Season 4 allows viewers without knowledge of the prior seasons to enjoy the storyline. But believe me, if you haven't watched the previous three seasons, do yourself a favor and watch them. Not only does it enhance the enjoyment of season 4, but if you are going to watch tv, you might as well watch the best show. When season 5 concludes, I may seriously consider whether I need a television anymore.

Sam A gave it a10:
Josh B put it very well, it is a show about something, and it does an excellent job of not making the "hood" or being a gangsta look romantic. It is real and effective. Living in the poorest city in America, Cleveland, I can relate to everything this show explains. Best show on TV

Ed M gave it a10:
The BEST SHOW ON TV EVER. All-Caps intentional.

Josh B gave it a10:
Seinfeld was the "show about nothing." This just might be the only show ever that can legitimately be called a "show about something." The Wire reveals every other show for the superficial pap that it is.

F.C. Barcelona gave it a10:
U2: Joshua Tree: An great album Marvin Gaye: What's goin' on; Gorgeous album: Jesse Jamerson on bass is exquisite Zinedine Zidane v. Brazil: Masterclass in midfield orchestration The Wire: One wants to sing and mourn in the same breath after watching this show!

Barrett D gave it a10:
The absolute best show I've seen in my life

Linda M gave it a10:
Real, so real to life in the urban setting. Truly fabulous; couldn't wait for each episode.

R N gave it a10:
The most important piece of televison there has ever been. I've derived no greater feeling from following "The Wire" for the last 4 seasons. It's shows life, as true as it can happen. This show presents the tragedy of our current system; ignoring and failing the people, putting everything to profit and the cold protection of that profit. "The Wire" had impacted my life so strongly with its story. I beg you now to start watching. By some miracle it has been picked up for its 5th and final season, which should start late 2007.

Zakiya D gave it a10:
I love the television show THE WIRE so much and just started 2 watch in mid of season 2 and have kept watching the television show ever since. My favorite character is Namond! real funny and charming

Dorian S gave it a10:
The most powerful, most heartbreaking, most intelligent, most empathic, most humanistic, most truthful television series that I have ever watched. The writing on all four seasons of "The Wire" is consistently first rate, with dozens of memorable characters brought to life by the superlative cast. Complex and convoluted (yet never boring) this series demands your complete attention when watching (something that will come quite easily as anyone who has watched this show can attest to), and rewards your investment of time in spades...

LaMicia T gave it a10:
I'm crazy hooked on The Wire ever since "Namond" came on Scream Tour 5, 2 weeks ago...Where has this show been all my life it's real !!!! HBO on demand got rid of it tho (idots). Happy New Year, now i gotta buy the DVD. lata

Beryl W gave it a10:
I've watch it from the first episode, I wait not even patiently for it every year. I'm so blown away this year. I recommend it to everyone. It should be required watching for the school boards. It should be required watching, because it is so very good. Maybe it's so high above the rest it rates more than any award could ever say; but it should be recognized anyway.

Dan M gave it a10:
The best show ever created.

Ken M gave it a9:
After "Homicide: Life on The Streets" this is the best series ever.

I do not exaggertae when I say this is the best show I have ever had the pleasure of sitting down in front of. So addictive I consumed the entire season in ONE SITTING.

Radu D gave it a10:
This is by far the best TV drama ever made.

David H gave it a10:
Simply incredible television which stands head and shoulders above anything else.

Liz A gave it a10:
This show is phenomenal!!! The writing is amazing, the acting is flawless.....I love, love, love this show! It elevates the television serial to a whole new level. No other program can touch The Wire.

alan f gave it a10:
the best

Candice A gave it a10:
As a Baltimorean and an educator, I was not eager to jump feet first into the Wire frenzy. Now, I can honestly say that the show has pierced parts of me that I have tried to keep stoic so that I can continue to live and do the "trench work" here. I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing-- but like Bubbles, I am addicted.

Jan H gave it a10:
Very simply the best TV serial drama ever. ONe cares for every character no matter what they have done as the door is opened into their humanenss. aAtextbook on the problems of large urban cities. It really doesn't make any difference what your level of analysis is--it ends up being the best TV serial drama ever. Did I say the best ever? Answer is YES.

David L gave it a10:
The Wire S4 manages to do what I hadn't thought possible - shock its fanbase into loving the show more than even the very first season. With an incredible setup for season 5, season 4 is the epitome of entertainment.

Kath S gave it a10:
The best reality show on television.

michael j gave it a10:

Cece S gave it a10:
Television at its best!!!! It's well deserving at the very least a nomination. I've been around since the first season, and everytime you think it can't possibly get any better.....It absolutely can, and does!!!!! What a journey! Thank you HBO for bringing us only the best!!!!

Alex W gave it a10:
Rivetting! Mind-blowing! I cannot stress this enough. If you haven't watched it, you need to rent, buy, or steal the DVDs, turn off all your phones, lock yourself in a room for a couple of days, and discover the best show ever created!

I've been numb ever since watching the last show, (tivo) last night. I just can't put into words the emotional rollercoster this show takes me through. At times I wish I could just reach into my TV and help these kids some way, some how. I live just outside of Baltimore and its incredible to me how THE WIRE parellels real life in bodymore....

George E gave it a10:
the wire is the best show i have ever seen in my life, i almost shed a tear during last nights final episode.

Demetrius P gave it a10:
By far, the BEST show on HBO! The Soprano's cannot hold a match to The Wire. The acting is 10x better, the plot is so...intense.... It's a shame this show doesn't get the notice it deserves

David G gave it a10:
Why not pile on to a good thing? A great thing actually -- the best work on television in the past decade, period.

Paul P gave it a10:
GOAT, the greatest of all times, no doubt. There will never be another show like The Wire, you feel me?

T Williams gave it a10:
The most riveting show in TV history

Dorian P gave it a10:
Best Show ever I cant even think o f a movie I like more.

COLLINS gave it a10:
The greates show of all times!!!!!

Ron C gave it a10:
Incredible. Season 4 has elevetated this show to legenadary status. It has always been good, but taken together the four seasons equal, and probably surpass anything that has ever been put on television before. If I had to guess as to why it has never become a ratings star for HBO it would have to be that yes, I do live in a racist country. (Or a dumb one that doesn't have the attention span it takes to follow the multiple plot lines... )

Janell J gave it a10:
I cannot fully articulate how outstanding this show is. Without contest, the best show on television.Period.

Pat W gave it a10:
I have been captivated by this show since season one. There is not a more accurate or honest show on television. It amazes me that shows like Entourage gets fans for a 20 minute episode yet the Wire never seems to recieve a bit of a following even with hour long episodes.

duane brau n gave it a10:
this show is awaome and so realistic.my favorite show

Colin C gave it a10:
This is the best show on television. Superb acting tight story lines, very underrated by mainstream viewers put off by language & the perception that it shows African-Americans in a most unfavorable light. What is missed is the core intelligence of these characters and the methods that they navigate thru their daily lives under difficult conditions.

Carl A gave it a10:
This is the only show on television that I watch regularly. It is absoluely excellent. I've heard that it is coming back for a fifth season. Thank goodness.

Chris C gave it a10:
The experience is visceral. The best show on T.V. ever. I am unhealthily fixated on all the characters and the drama. Currently trying to turn all my smart friends on to The Wire.

TONY B gave it a10:
One of the best television series I have ever seen. NO SCRATCH THAT. This is the best television series I have ever seen.

tom p gave it a10:
The best show on televison. Maybe one of the best show ever on tv. Enjoy it while it lasts

"The Wire" is the best show in television history, period.

james c gave it a10:
The best and deepest drama on TV. The acting and writing is great.

Tom H gave it a10:
I have watched this show from the beginning and I can only say that it is the best television show on today. The writing is first rate and the acting is even better. The stories will make you go through every emotion you have.

Jimmy V gave it a10:
Best show on TV. When will The Wire start winning the awards it truly deserves?

Jared K gave it a10:
As usual, The Wire is proving to be the best show on television this season. The first episode, was strong but felt slightly off kilter. But this has been true of every season so far. Likely it's due to the massive cast changes and the two year layoff between seasons three and four. However, each of the next three episodes that I've seen has gotten progressively stronger, more tense, better paced. Already I feel invested in the five main new characters. The Wire is just a monumentally compelling, expertly crafted show that deserves a wider audience.

big king gave it a10:
This is currently the best show on the air, period. Hard to think how they could improve it, except by making more episodes

Jeremy H gave it a10:
Best show on television. Well written and perfectly casted...no television drama can touch it with a ten foot poll...or shotgun, whichever you prefer

C. Cotton gave it a10:
The Wire sets the bar for crime dramas. This is the show I go to when I need to see what great acting and great writing is all about. After watching the first few episodes of this season I was able to review all the other shows on my list and start chopping some of them off my list just because most can't campare to this drama.

brian gave it a10:
I am obsessed with "The Wire". Only started watching a few weeks ago and have almost made it up to the current season (thanks to dvds of season 1-3)... Nothing else is like it, although it jumps off from "Homicide" and "The Corner", Baltimore shows that explored similar ground. It's not just TV... it's THE WIRE! Ya feel me? ps, if you're just starting as a Wire-o-phile, turn on the subtitles

LarTorya H gave it a10:
love this show it's the best thing on tv

Andrea D gave it a10:
We watched the first 3 seasons of The Wire on demand and DVD in a marathon this summer, and found it to be as addictive as the heroin trade it often scrutinizes. The complexity of its characters, the depth of its writing, its critical eye, make it the best show ever.

Christine gave it a10:
The Wire has been the best thing on TV since its first season. How can it be that it took so long for it to be recognized (it doesn't seem to be listed in Metacritic's "Best of 2005)? Increidbly smart writing, acting, producing and editing. I dred the story coming to an end after next year.

jerry b gave it a10:
Best show ever.... I can't say much cause it'll take too long... bottom line you have to watch it from season 1 on to appreciate it..

Alastair gave it a10:
Unimpeachably brilliant. The best television show ever made.

Kevin W gave it a10:
I love the wire but you almost have to watch it from the first season. Unlike most shows "The Wire" isn't about the characters or the plot. The show is about Baltimore and "the game." So you have to watch it for that, but it makes the show even more enjoyable. Your favorite character who seems to be the spotlight of the show may be dead by the next episode and that just keeps you on your toes.

mary h gave it a10:
This is a show that requires patience and brains; all B story and a 13 episode story arc - unthinkable on "regular" channels. Characters with flaws, soul, issues and, best of all, great acting and incredible writing.

Emmanuel D gave it a10:
The Wire is one of the best show ever to be on HBO. Only if the Emmy’s would recognize it for an award. Then again not enough major actors/actresses to get the recognition. Good enough for me to watch it over and over again. I'll give it an Emmy.

Gordon T gave it an8:
I really like this show. It is well written and acted. It lacks the edge of some other shows but now Im cutting hairs. I don't see why a show like this can't make it on regular TV. I mean the crap (CSI amd all its spawns) thats on regular TV now is such a waste. The plots are so obvious and the dialog so perdictable and finally the content so not challenging. This show should be on CBS!

Kevin J gave it a10:
I would give up red meat for this show. Nothing else even comes close to matching the continuing brilliance displayed in every aspect of The Wire. This show doesn't deserve an Emmy. It deserves a Nobel Prize.

Michael D gave it a10:
The wire is the smartest and most ambitious show on television today. Its continual portrayal of the intricacies and hypocrisy of both crime and justice encourage discussion and gently nudge the necessary realization that too much of America is sad, ugly and more complicated that any of us care to know. I enjoy every minute; it almost justifies my obscene cable bill.

Eric S gave it a10:
I taught in the inner city of the Baltimore City Schools System for two years. This show is not fiction - it is an accurate portrayal of reality on TV. A must see for every American.

Michael J gave it a10:
A great show. On top of everything else this episode was unbelievably funny. Great way to start the 1st season. Waiting for the return of Omar.

Domingo gave it a10:
This is the best show on television. It has the depth of a book played out every week on TV. We don't deserve to be treated this well.

Melanie T gave it a10:
Amazing show! Best one on television!

Scotch Zombie gave it a10:
The best show on television (just beating out Deadwood in my view). If you've missed the first three seasons, read the fantastic episode guides on HBO.com - or better yet find the DVDs. Do not miss!

John J gave it a10:
Simply the best.

Mike gave it a10:
This is the best television show ever made. Makes other shows like "24" look like public access television.

Stefan P gave it a10:
best show i have ever seen. goddamnit, i want to have intercourse with the people who conceptualized this program. it is the sweetest show ever created in the history of modern media. i motherfucking love the wire. god bless baltimore. titties. this show is titties.

Waset R gave it a10:
For me, television could go away forever, as long as on Sunday nights, it came back on to show The Wire. This show is the greatest show ever in the history of television and I tell everyone I know and everyone I meet that very same thing.

C. E. gave it a10:
Great show. I watched all three season (37 episodes) in four days. Can't wait to see the fourth season.

Marc D. gave it a10:
The first episode was everything I expected it to be. And outstanding foundation for another good season. The first season in the Home Depot-type store is priceless. There is simply a level of authenticity in The Wire that no other show on TV can get close to. Only Homicide: LOTS is in the same ballpark. Why the Emmy folks and all those other organizations that complain about the lack of quality roles for African American actors seem to ignore this show is beyond me.

G G gave it a10:
I love this show!

r c gave it a10:
Greatest dramatic Television series ever, truly a work of art. Season 4 appears to follow that trend, the opening scene alone is one of the Wire's best.

J T gave it a10:
Glad to see this show get its due. Such a sad tale for those 4 boys. Expect to get your heart broken. The wire is what TV should be.

K J gave it a10:
For what the show asks of you, which is simply that you watch, the rewards are unbelievable. The Wire is funny, dark and thought-provoking all at once, and David Simon & Ed Burns are first and foremost incredible storytellers. Some of the reviews tend to make watching The Wire sound like homework, but while the show may be a bit complicated to explain, above all else it's totally entertaining. It's fascinating television.

C O gave it a10:
I want to find something flawed in this show, but I just can't Perfect.

J C gave it a9:
Slow from the blocks but so amazing once it builds momentum. When season 1 pilot first aired, a friend called me and asked me what I thought. My reaction "its so real, there are so many loose ends, its kind of dull." Two weeks later, the same friend called and I told him that I was watching The Wire. He asked why and I said that I didnt know and that it was kind of hypnotic. Two weeks later, I answered the phone and said "I'll call you back I am watching the greatest show ever!" and hung up on him. If you haven't seen it, expect to find this season's pilot rather open ended and to introduce many character relationships that seem real but vague. But four weeks from now, you will be chomping at the bit for each new episode. You'll be glad you did.

adam g gave it a10:
Televison perfection at it's finest.

Sam D gave it a10:
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this show can't really be underrated. Astonishing drama. Sure, it's not easy to watch and it requires that the viewer be involved in what's going on but the rewards are more than any other show I've ever seen. Greatest show ever.

Dony G gave it a10:
This is the best show in television history. That's not an exaggeration. Tell your friends about it. 3 episodes and you're hooked. Guaranteed. If they don't give it a fifth season everyone at HBO should be arrested and then fired.

D R gave it a10:
This show is truely the best ever, yes it might sound cliche to say that about this show, but its so true. The first episode of every season is like a new first chapter, so of course its a little confusing at first, but thats the beauty of this show is that it demands your attention and you get rewarded ten fold once you get into it. I loved the season 4 opener, It starts off a year after the last season and is just awesome to see all the characters we have come to love over the years. My favorite show no doubt.

Greg A gave it a10:
The greatest show ever. Period.
