Albeon J. gave it a10:
Brilliantly funny!

David S gave it a10:
Brilliant piece of art. No one critiques American culture with more punch or hilarity than Aaron McGruder. And if you're not socially aware enough to really get that sort of thing, you'll laugh anyway. Everybody wins.

Adam H gave it a10:
A consistently witty and funny series. A must see for anyone who values intelligent humor.

shannette e gave it a10:
I love this show i think it shows how people act but it makes it things more funny then they are. i live in the uk and think that they need a show like this to show then just what funny is. xxx bring theboondocks to england!

Alex gave it a6:
There's little to say about The Boondocks that hasn't been said before; it is incredibly controversial and at times, incredibly humorous. The biggest problem with this show is that while it does have its shining moments of brilliance, it always ends up falling short of what it should be simply because there isn't enough screen time for humor in between all the political and social rhetoric of it's creator. We get it Aaron, you don't particularly care for mainstream black culture- you don't need to make every episode based around a prominent figure in black culture or a parody of one. The redundancy and overall absence of humor doesn't help this show at all, and it's really a shame because it has so much potential. I'll end this on a good note though; Aaron McGruder is clearly an incredibly insightful man who has a very strong message to send to people black, white and every shade in between. And while he does make some seriously good points through the exploits of Huey and co., he seriously needs to make the show more appealing by making it much more humorous than it currently is. Most of the writing ends up being very sophomoric, though maybe that is the fault of the writers and production crew. What could make this show nothing short of brilliant is simply better writing, akin to the late works of Bill Watterson. Season 3 is just around the corner, so hopefully we'll see some improvement.

You know how there's those TV shows you watch regularly, and then there are the ones you've heard about, maybe caught a few glimpses of, but never really got into? and then you watch an episode in its entirety and, just like you've heard... you find it amazing? Don't let me overhype this show. A TV show is just that, a TV show. But this is far from a cartoon. I don't know much about Japanese cartoons, but I think the drawing style is called anime... well, this is American anime. The typical American crowd portrayed in the anime style is a shining combination. Voice acting is unprecedented. Persons behind the mic include Regina King, Charlie Muprhy, Samuel L Jackson, John Witherspoon, guest appearance of Lil' Wayne, and many other incredible performers. The music makes the show flow like nothing else. The dialogue is the most hysterical thing I have ever heard... The bottom line is that this may look like a cartoon at first , but it's much more than just that. This "cartoon" is on par with some of the classics of the big screen. But seriously, don't have unrealistically high expectations. It's just a show.

TL Dragon gave it a10:
The Boondocks in real in the best of ways. The show remains oblivious to political correctness and instead focus's on the truth as McGruder see's it. Its funny, shocking, educational at times and always entertaining.

Jasmine gave it a10:
Excellent satire that people either get, or they don't. The people who don't get it are usually the ones being made fun of.

Symira H. gave it a10:
This is one of the best shows. Aaron Mcgruder is not afraid to take on subjects dealing with the black community.

Asha G. gave it a10:
Simply amazing!!

Ashley gave it a10:
I think this is the best show in years. Its a real depiction of so many things that happens in black America. Everyone can relate to uncle rukus. We all know someone that hate their own race. This is what t.v. should be about. Give us all some thing entertaining and intellectual.

Shane H. gave it a10:
I love this show because its honestly funny...Mr. McGruder did nothing but expos what we go threw as African Americans. Don't get me wrong we got some work to do...but he took what we go threw and turned it into comedy. Whats the difference between a cartoon and a regular film.....

Stephen M. gave it a10:
My favorite cartoon show and my third favorite in all. It provides a general funny plotline while inserting many hidden themes that are also quite comical, able to be found funny by all except al sharpton, who can burn in hell.

Shawn T. gave it a10:
This show is an amazingly witty and intelligent show... and hilarious.

Ciara S. gave it a10:
This is the best show Ive seen in a while. you can learn a lot from this show. i love the fact that Huey is smart, and especially knows about his peoples. I'm a little mad that Uncle Ruckus is there talking all that mess, but i know hes there for a reason. Just don't know what yet, but i learn so much about Huey and hes ma favorite character in this show, then Riley. everybody likes him cause he gangsta and everything but i love this show because im learning from the messages there putting in the show and Huey. I love shows that put hidden messages in there. Aaron McGruder is doing a very good job. Please please please, keep doing the show, more episodes and everything. I love this show and so do everyone else. Adults need 2 wake up and find the message in the show and not just saying they don't like it because of the cursing. they should actually watch it and figure out what it means or what there trying to say in...any episode.

D. A. gave it a10:
Very entertaining show with very attaching and prolific characters. Most of the fun simply comes from listening to the conversations, fast-paced and to the point, almost rap-like. The amazing soundtrack helps a lot too, as well as the intense fight scenes that add a bit of action to an already very complete comedy show. You just gotta understand that all uses of the word "nigger" are not meant to offend and that social commentary is not the only point of the show.

Rawle S. gave it a10:
Best Shoe Ever...Put out the stereotypes and shows the real black families living in this country...A great Show and i support it and cant wait for every new episode...Gud job Aaron.

Leslie T gave it a10:
Terry C you need to rewatch it again, get past being offended and see the show for what it really is.

Paul S gave it a10:
This is by far the best show on television and unarguably the least politically correct, which adds immeasurably to its appeal in this world of ultra soft emasculated men and fantasy dwelling black bousie nerds. It contains many deep soul stirring messages for this ailing society and its damn FUNNY!! Arron Mcgrudder is a certified GENIUS!!!!!!

Allen B. gave it a10:
Finally media that promotes the Revolution.

Terry C. gave it a0:
Worst show that I've ever seen on TV by far!!!...not only does it use the "N" word to much its embarrassing, and I'm african american and I took offense to it being used. People fought for the word to be scrapped and now its used like no other, and its just simply not funny!

Karl G. gave it a10:
I think this television show is exceptional. It inspired me to post to metacritic for the first time when I learned its ratings were only good and not great.

Tom L. gave it a10:
Outstanding show! Makes me laugh every time, and I'm not even black!

Phillip B. gave it a9:
One of the best shows on anywhere! Plenty of deep messages that need to be told. Everyone will not be able to handle it, but then that's the way life is. Right On to the creator of the show!

Krusty Toenail gave it a10:
This show rocks. It's comedy, lighten up people. Don't like it change the channel. The characters all have different personalities, and the style is great. Fight scenes can get pretty sweet too. It's one of the best animated series out now.

Candace C. gave it a10:
Brilliantly funny and, at times, jaw-dropping-ly bold.

JD B. gave it a10:
I feel that this show is a dose of much needed realism to a much neglected part of the socioeconmic structure, as well as an eye opener for outsiders. Very well done.

Havoc Troll gave it a10:
The best show on the Adult Swim line-up (That is currently owned by Turner)

Scott M. gave it a9:
Razor sharp satire.

Joseph y. gave it a10:
One show that fights against ignorant PC nonsense. Everything can be a little funny if you can grow up and get a sense of humor. The things that make us all different are the things that make us all the same. Laugh world, just laugh.

ahmad r. gave it a10:
This show is so hilarious.

b j gave it a10:
uncle ruckus preaches the truth

Kurt R gave it a10:
Brilliant. I think anyone who finds this offensive based on the language used is completely missing the forest for the trees. Look past the fact that offensive words and stereotypes are used to find the greater message. I for one laugh my butt off at almost every episode. And why? Cause though the truth may be ugly, it is most certainly funny and kudos to Aaron for showing us how ridiculous we are.

Joseph P gave it a10:
Absolutely brilliant. While some claim that use of the n-word (I won't type the word out cause I don't want to listen to people complain)automatically makes this show racist, the truth is that it shows how racism and stereotypes make fools of us all - black, white, Hispanic, Asian, whatever. And it's freaking hilarious, too. If you're offended by television, turn it off.

Dee Dee gave it a9:
The Boondocks is smart, funny, relevant and entertaining. Racism will not end because anyone stops using the N- word. Focusing on that cause you to miss all the totally relevant social and mulit-cultural commentary the show has to offer. MacGruder is the bomb!

Samer S. gave it a10:
Don't call this show racist, it insults black just as much as white people. It Highlights some of the fu**d up shit in our society. It's honest and it's funny. The episode with Martin Luther King brought a tear to my eye.

johnny c. gave it a10:
wow...here we go again. i dont see how ppl are so offended by this. the whole show is not based on racism. if u actually listen to some of the stuff they say,its not all about racism. this show is funny, and sort of educational at the same time.

Jet B. gave it a0:
This show is horrible. Beyond offensive and disgusting. This show is not true to the strip that started it. The N-word is used by Huey of all people! And John Witherspoon's buffoon portrayal of Grandad, who is/was a Black Panther is degrading and humiliating to all the men and women in the struggle. I am enraged that Aaron McGruder sold himself and his creativity this way. This show is nothing but another debasing and undignified depiction of people with African roots. And there is nothing funny about that.

Ramona W gave it a0:
I think that it should be taken off the air. I think that it is very offensive and racist. I think that it is a shame that we can not come up with more positive self images and that we continue to allow very negative images permeate our culture. I love our people and we can certainly do more to project this sentiment.

Dig Dug gave it a10:
Anyone who doesn't like the boondocks is a communist

Jack W gave it a10:
Extremely Smart and Funny

Boman gave it a10:
It offends me that you take offense to it. Until we can laugh at ourselves and others in the same breath, racism will never disappear.

shontel a gave it a0:
this show is extremely inappropriate and me being of the african american hertiage take offense to the show.

artisha b gave it a10:
I think its funny as hell...I luv it...

Korin gave it a10:
I'm just glad the closed minded mofuckers are dwindling away in our society. Anyone who thinks this cartoon is horrible obviously has no sense of humor, art, nor style. They wouldn't know a Van Gogh from thier kid brothers stick figure. Its sad that Americans are so Judgemental, but hell I think that's the message the show was tryin to send. I'm glad someone sees the underlining racisim that has developed in this country both black and white. The feelings are mutal on both sides. Step up and open your eyes, things aren't always what they seem.

kaneda gave it a10:
A very funny show, allthough some may find it offensive.

mark I gave it a10:
funny that a satire cartoon can have more relevance than the news which is supposed to be based on current events.

sno t gave it a10:
i musrt say your cartoon brings a lot of knowledge. I also want to add great points that i never will look at the same.

ROBYN C gave it a10:
This is the best show I have ever seen and it open your eyes to alot. This show deserves not only a perfect 10 but a 100!

robyn gave it a10:
this show is real and I actually learn something though each and every episode including different opinions. This show deserves a 11 not a 10!

liam b gave it a10:
This show is the best GO HUEY!!!!

Betty H gave it a10:
Wonderful put together. This show has me rolling on the floor each and every episode.

J B gave it a9:
Excellent show, perhaps the only one to have ever translated a comic strip properly (maybe making it better in the process by delivering several strips worth of comics at once). As daring at South Park was originally with the same mass appeal (at least in my family) as the Simpsons. And honestly, comparing it to either of those shows does it a disservice, as it outshines them both in some ways.

Jamil A gave it a10:
Funny show with very serious messages about the world we live.

mel h gave it a10:
this show is as real as it can get LOL makes ya laugh like no other

jorasch gave it a10:
that show is da bomb tha shit iz tight so if u feel its lower dan a 10 u should suck riley dick

Ismail gave it a10:
You can't hate. Shake those who do because they only want the show to drop. It's common sense these days that racism still exist. Form your own future. It's the only way go.

Gasmine W gave it a10:
never take this show off of tv I LOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!! its the best cartoon on adult swim.

rob s gave it a10:
boondocks is the best thing that ever happend to television. its freedom of speech, sterio typeps, constant curssing and use of the n-word not only adds that edge to the show but also ads some humer. alot of racial coments and such is in this show,it shows white people hating black people and even black people hating black people.i dont like racisum, but i think it also keeps the show alive and shocking to some viewers. i love how 8 year old riley tryes to be so gangster, hes the most gangster 8 year old i know. i also love huey's wide vocabulary and revoulutionary attitude towards life. huey not only feels free to say what he wants but fights against what he feels is rong. i think the show is brilliant. keep the episodes coming!

Will S. gave it a10:
YO, Ralisha, maybe you can review the show, and not broadcast to everyone that YOU ARE A RACIST! TO further your statements, Jesus wasnt black, he was middle eastern, which is like the color of the characters on the Aladdin movie, i know this mostly because, of where he was from, but whatever. Also, your views on the n word make no sense, its a word i feel very disgraced by everyone who says it or whoever calls me that. I Wisht That word was gone. deleted. But black people like to keep it around for protection, like they wanna keep racism which is mostly gone form their generation as weapons against everyone else. You live in your little world, and i will live in the real one.Whatever. Anyway, I love this show, because it is written incredibly well. It is funny and enjoyable, and makes you think about black culture today. All in all, The Boondocks is an excellent show.

REGINALD C gave it a10:
boondocks is the best nigga/ fuck family guy and the rest boondocks is the best ya need to put the show on at 10pm so you can make more money and so i can see more shows nigga

Risika B gave it a10:
This is one of the best shows on TV! It's funny, but has quotes in it that really make you think. The Show is a little racist to white people but that adds to the humor in some ways.

M Lee gave it a9:
This might be one of the funniest shows I've ever watched, period. And, it makes you think, in so many levels. It entertains, AND it challenges you...

D G gave it a10:
Love this Show man. Stop lisening to the media it' s time to let people get a real taste of what the Hood is like. You Think You Know Huh!!! This How we Had to survive In the Hood. Most of Yall would'nt Last a day! Much Luv Fam

Jarrod L gave it a3:
This is one of the most dissapointing shows to ever be aired. It manages to take Aaron McGruder's creative genius for delivering snappy, funny, and socially insightful dialogue from his comic and make it a chore to watch. The characters and situations are simply too broad. It seems to miss the mark by being obvious and in general show a lack of the smart, insightful nature of the strip. What surprises me most is how quickly people have accepted it, claiming that people who have low opinions "don't get it". I assure you, there is very little to get, the show is as obvious as "Friends".

Ralisha O gave it a10:
Man let me tell you about this so called racist show. Its great stuff. Because you dont understand the real meanings behind each epsiode dont get mad. I hope the show goes on for a while as long as everybody loves raymond. Cuz hell i don't love raymond but he still on Tv. The fact of the matter is white people are comfrotable knowing how black people (generally) feel about them. The Boondock is racist why cuz ronald reagan the devil or maybe cuz the government is lying about 9 11 no i know because Jesus Is Black. News flash he may not have been black but he was a man of color. He was hebrew he aint have blonde hair and blue eyes. The world is racist when a 7year has to sleep wit a weapon under her pillow because she scared of the white people. Bump that they keepin it real wit errbody. this is coldest show on tv right now, Yea they do say the N word alot (in respect for the white people i'll say the N word) but if a group of people take a word wit negative connations and use it postively. i will also admitt that it does cause tension if a white person walks up to me and say the N word. its guarnteed to go down. Point is if u dont like it dont watch it but dont ruin it for those of us who do

nick o gave it a10:
this is the tightest show on adult swim and i should smack who doesn't like the show

Deshad C gave it a10:
I absolutley love this show, and for all the people who don't I can't really understand why. White people are so outraged at this show, namely because they say it's qoute "a bad, unimaginative show" Even major critics say the first Episode with R Kelly was where the fun stopped. But I think it's mainly because it shows the white race in a bad steorytype, which is something there not used to. It's all good when R Kelly gets made fun of, but wheh a pot shot gets taken at Ronald Regan its no longer funny. Ironic isn't it? I find it funny that shows like this are blasted, but shows like "Friends" who took years to even add someone of color are praised. And yeah, I think sometimes The Boondocks can maybe go a little over the line sometimes, but it does it for good reason. Just because it crosses a line or two dosent mean it's not a good show. And for those who compare this show to South Park I say this, if it where just another South Park we wouldn't be talikng about it now. It wasn't intended to be a South Park carbo copy because they are two completley different shows. Do they both preach? Hell yeah they do, but thats where the comparisons stop. I f you want to laugh at stupid shit with no meaning Watch Family Guy (which I love) but if you want the truth in all its ugliness then check this.

m p gave it a10:
to quote the movie Bamboozled " thats the dope is show on TV" I have NO clue why white people are pissed off... im white extrmely white snow caps on mountains white and i think its FUNNNNNNNNNNNY. People are just afriad to things that are true...werd

Jeff P gave it a10:
The reviews from Variety and The New Yorker aren't surprising, as they're pretentious and don't get statements like this show makes. This show is as important as any on television because it's honest. "It was as hot as Dick Cheny's gun barrell", as well as the character of Ruckus, could only be depicted in cartoon, and there within lies their success. Breaking barriers, of course they are! They're making untalked about things in this soicety, and that's very responsible.

Quan P gave it a10:
Thsi show is the hottest black one out this year and can only get better with time.

ludine m gave it a10:
great cartoon and commentary about societal issues

Bob Bobby gave it a10:
This show is awsome i love this show the boondocks the comic strip is good to :)

BlackContractor gave it a10:
LOL!!! It's funny to see people complain that the show paints "White" people as all evil. I mean, at least watch the show. Anyone who has seen an episode knows McGruder's humor is much more about the "Black" community than "Whites". It exposes that many "Blacks" use the n-word. It exposes that many "Blacks" worship "Whiteness". It exposes the negative behaviors we have. And it actually talks about solutions, ala the King episode. There isn't anything out there that compares to this. Right on Aaron!!!!

Eric gave it a5:
I'd give this show a 0 if it weren't for the social satire. I was hoping that this show would be as funny as his comic strip it's based on, but the voices just ruin everything.

Craig gave it a0:
I hate this show because its racist against white people clearly,. Frank my butt - its frankness is bullcrapt. Yeah there is racism and black people have been screwed over. I have black friends who are not republican "uncle toms" and they hate this shit too for what it is - shit. I'm no Ronald Reagon fan but that crap about white heaven - the creator deserves to be slapped down for inciting trouble - I will stop watching adult swim because of this show.

Lizmon D gave it a10:
This shit is real

Martin S gave it an8:
After reading the strip for quite some time I was a bit shocked at the shows frankness. I'm a bit worried that the political observations will be overshadowed by the "N" word however black people everywhere will immediately recognize these characters. It seems Aaron is saying all the things he could never get away with in the Sunday funnies.

patrica u dont need to know gave it a10:
I think this show is the shit, I think some people say it sucks because they dont like how they talk or just turn too the channel and call it crap and dont even bother to look at, well heres something that most of these complaining ass people need to do turn the goddam cartoon and go and watch the cooking channel or something let the people who enjoy watching watch it without having to here some complaining ass people. ps. and sorry most of this wont make sense to u

Jaime D gave it a10:
still surprised this airs on tv....props....madd respect....

Stephanie M gave it a10:
I am so glad this is on air. Thank you, Aaron McGruder.

Ed R gave it a10:
A show that is about much more than just race and color, with undertones of moral lessons that may help us get through our daily lives. Aaron McGruder allows us to laugh at our own ignorance, showing us the stupidity in racism and testing us to be true to ourselves. If you think he is saying White people are bad, or Black people are stupid, you have missed the point.

Isaac C gave it a10:
All I have to say is I'm going to watch this show as much as I can - Something this honest and entertaining won't last long.

Gabriel L. gave it a0:
Severely crappy! Ranks with "The War at Home" as one of the most unfunny and unwatchable shows on TV. Like that other pile of worthlessness, it tries to be edgy, but has no good jokes, original observations, or likeable characters. If you want hilarious, line-crossing social satire, watch South Park, Chappelle, and old recordings of Bill Hicks stand-up.

corey b gave it a10:

I've been reading The Boondocks in the newspaper every since i could remember. When my grandmother would get the paper, the boondocks would be the first thing i would read, I've also been trying to get Public Enemy, and the Right to be Hostile. Just had to say a lil comment, and one more thing, if they ever try to ban the boondocks, i will fight to try to keep it on. Wun get at me.

Jason N gave it a10:
hahaha, white people are mad at the show & try to downplay it as trying to be "shocking" or "black vs white". even acting like YOU'RE offended by the usage of the "N" word! HAHAHAHA you'd rather see a talking happy meal with mindless bulls**t, typical ...hey blacks making fun of the people that make fun of THEM isnt funny . . . .whats funny is a happy meal that can talk . . . or anything else on cartoon network thats even stupider than THAT! funny again how white people seem to always compare it to Dave Chapelle! yea....just bunch up all the "black" shows together into a neat little pile . . . thats like me trying to compare the Gilmore Girls With Space ghost, all white & both not funny so I should compare em right? i LOVE it when a black show tackles race, all day (especially if you're online) you have to put up with racism FOR REAL, Especially online where you cowardly chatroom racists LOVE to attack a person of color at any givin chance you get...as old as that gets, it seems to never leave, so dont get mad when a black person has issues with your race lol this is an outlet other than us tearing your heads off....like we SHOULD! Now some of you are complaining about how much money cartoon network spent on it like it hurt YOUR feelings , OMG! HAHAHAHA see all this whining & complaining? this is exactly why I LOVEthe show! we need MORE like it! shovel that sh** right back into your faces that you force us to eat all day, go watch your reality tv shows with the token black person on there

Subtle and shrewd. Hits its mark and makes me smile. We've had cartoons about blacks that either made them look super stereotyped (Proud Family) or super politically-correct (Static Shock) but this show actually gives us people we can relate with. Well done.

This the best cartoon out right now that is down to earth and real funny

glenn w gave it a10:
awesome show. Been reading the strip for years. Love it.

WAKS gave it a10:
After watching the first four (4) episodes of McGruder's comic-turned television show, I have to say that I am pleased with its message and shock value. I think Mr. McGruder is doing what all franchise players should do in crunch time, take over. I am a writer and I am not afraid to say what I have to say about African Americans, my people. This show is no more degrading than watching music videos on VH1, BET or MTV. It is no more degrading than watching our young black girls and boys on the streets imitating life, ie streetwalking, drug peddling, etc. Maybe, Mr. McGruder and I live in a different America, one where prejudices and stereotypes don't exist. :) Here's a tidbit, integration only made things worse and we haven't grown past its narcotic-like addiction. From the 60's til now, if you consider yourself to be an intellectual, nothing's really changed. We are still a people dependent on society's ills and McGruder is NOT one of those ills in which I speak. Daily, we are bombarded with bullshit from America. From government to entertainment to religion. Nothing is sacred anymore. We are told what to wear, what is successful, what is life, what is this, what is that. We make Hitler references about every dictator that comes along, but the propaganda job that America has pulled off over the years is ridiculous and we are all to blame. Black America is just as guilty as anyone else. It seems as though we have to become sideshows to be considered productive and successful. From my experience, shock value is what we need. Maybe today's youth will see this program and grow up trying to effect change, not repeating learned behavior.

Simon T gave it a2:
I had high hopes for the show, and I was a big fan of McGruder's printed work. However I have to call him out as a hypocrite and panderer. The consistent nauseating and gratuitous use of the N word is disgusting. I thought the Klan wrote the show as the N-bombing is nothing less than a total degradation of people of African anscestry. Thanks Aaron for contributing nothing except self-hatred and ugly stereotypes. Nowhere else in the world will you find a race pushed into the gutter in this manner.

butt sparkle gave it a0:
NOT funny. not shocking. simply a waste of time. i can't believe that the Cartoon Network spent so much on this... AWFUL.

beaner46 y que? gave it a10:
Perfection.The NEW Chappelle show...bitches.

Snob gave it a3:
Lame, almost embarrassingly so. Cartoon Network supposedly dumped a lot of cash into this turd. It's not very funny and it certainly isn't daring unless hearing the N word gives you a rise. Give me the comics anyday.

Gnarles gave it a7:
Doesn't always work - and when it doesn't, it's near-terrible - but the show is worth watching for the times when it really catches fire. The look of the show is visually incredible as well, leagues ahead of the poorly-drawn muck that passes for cartoons these days. This show has great potential, but it's too early to see if it will be met.

nelia c gave it a10:
Great Show ! Genius !

brian l gave it a10:
The show was refreshing. I felt that if you are aware of the social issues that are not talked about, then you will get the jokes. the african-american community as a whole should not be ashamed because alot of this show speaks the truth. the truth that the african-american community already knows.... Long live "THE BOONDOCKS"!

T K gave it a10:
This is my new favorite show!!!! as soon as i saw ads for this and heard the hype i was amped for this show. Best of all it ended up being funny, smart, stupid (in a good way). It is a show that african americans such as me can enjoy and relate to, especially after chappelle show was cancelled. Now this gaem isn't for people who are easily offended or uptight. If you like other shows on adult swim you'll love this!

great show lives up to the comic

This was disappointing, and like so many others that have commented on here, the humor was forced, the N word gratuitous and the situations just dont play out the same way on the screen compared to a comic strip. I think that this is another product of mistaking shock with comedy on a larger scale. It works effectively in the strip because of the quickness/sharpness of delivery, but ends up becoming tired old jokes that I heard/saw/said about 3-5 years ago. This was disappointing for mcGrueder who with his strip, elevated the ability for a strip to be more than "just a strip". The cartoon undermines his creatvitiy and voice.

This show is genius because it not only dis whites but blacks. If your not so stuck up then you will not have a problem with this show.

R Skells gave it a9:
i saw the episode on the R Kelly case and it was absolutely hilarious. i thought it was smart and touched on many insecurities and issues within the African American community. that was just one episode but on this evidence, i'll be watching every sunday. what an outstanding show. its the honesty of the show thats really refreshing. there are black characters that reflect a wide range of personalities, not just what the news media and BET (a reinforcer of stereotypes if you ask me) try to promote as the Image of the African American. it also shows how race can blind us to fact and cloud our good judgement. its an episode i will not be forgeting soon. i'll be tuning in again and again.

G Camel gave it a9:
I have seen two episodes so far and think that it is hilarious. It is an intelligent, dry-wit type of comedy. The jokes don't always slap you in the face the creators want you to think for a sec to fully appreciate the humor. AND NO!, it is not a black and white thing. It is an introspective look at the Black Community and some of the ignorant attitude and behavior displayed by "some only".

v h gave it a5:
There is some decent style to this show, but it tries too hard and too often to be shocking.

xpoon diggy gave it a10:
this is the best show on adult swim, hands down!

Boring. I suppose it's ok to see the cartoon strip every so often but half an hour of this is just too tedious. Perhaps I am jaded or it's only "love it" or "don't care" with nothing in between -- I am of the second camp. I will give the second episode a try but if it's just as boring as first one... I can probably have fun trying to "write" whole episode after seeing first minute.

I watched the debut of Boondocks on November 6th and thoroughly enjoyed it. Years ago, when The Boondocks first debuted in Comics I made no bones about my contempt for Creator-McGruder's portrayal of N.W.A (Negroes with attitudes) and Whites as pusillanimous ignoramuses. But, after having spent the last few years re-evaluating my beliefs of our failed society, I have come to the conclusion that Aaron McGruder’s is a genius! The boy not only has artistic talent (as well as a Degree in African American studies) but is a good writer in general who paints a real, if not brusque, picture of race relations in America. Like McGruder I attended Catholic School and spent a large portion of my childhood living in White-only neighborhoods. So that, If anyone cannot see the brilliant satire he depicts in his comic strip of what’s really going down then they’re too busy trying to forget past injustices (Whites are notorious for this!), or even worst, trying to gravitate over to ‘mainstream America’ for acceptance by the so-called Majority (Blacks are crazy to even want to do that!). Aaron’s doing what’s Real and for a generation of Hipsters that don’t settle for anything less! I hope to see more of the characters of the strip in the show, I.E; Jasmine, Cindy, and the faculty of J. Edgar Hoover Elementary. And I hope that their will not only be another but three more seasons of this delightful comedy.

Let's be real for a minute. This is a cartoon. A cartoon PEOPLE! It's intended to create and cause controversy, dialogue and debates. Okay! Whatever! Its funny bro. No if ands or buts about it. I laugh now, watching it for the 8th time, like I did when I watched it the first. Sometimes being politically incorrect is good for the soul. You need it to shake up your "double mocha latte w/soy" lives.

Black people do this. White people do that. It's just not funny or shocking anymore.

We need more articulate, educated, thoughtful and opinionated African-American voices out there. Actually, we need more articulate, educated, thoughtful and opinionated voices, period. Go Aaron!!

I was always a big fan of The Boondocks. I'm glad I'm able to watch it on television now. The show is great and I'm looking forward to this sunday.

JL Janel gave it a2:
This show is as ignorant as you get. Its main goal is to shock and try to brainwash the youth in believing all whites are evil racists. That itself is not helping the black cause its just further dividing the population. This show isn't funny at all . Dave Chapelle is funny even though he deals with the same subject matter it seems to be more poignant than this silly attempt to deal with issues using animation. Watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force , Harvey Birdman , Stroker & Hoop or Squidbillies to get you're ***** and giggles. The Boondocks will not make it to another season and thank god for that.

i am in love with the Boondocks! i think it was realy funny. im black and i didn't get offended by comments on the show. i think it was so funny when the old guys sung he song about "dem new niggas!"! i been singing that for days! i don't see how ppl can say that the show is not good! my momma even thought it was funny! this is coming from a lady who wouldn't let me watch Dave Chappelle and his comdey speacial on Showtime. "With ur bright red booty!" all in all the show is funny and my DVR is set for next sunday!

Mike G. gave it a2:
I hope it gets better. The strip is pretty funny, so I'm willing to give this show another shot, but the first episode was really bizarre and not that funny.

The BM gave it a2:
This just wasn't funny. I don't mind tackling race, but take a tip from the Chapelle Show, because what he did was actually funny. I'm not sure what show these other reviewers are watching.

If we didn't get enough use of the word "nigger" in Rap, here is the rest. As a child of the civil rights era I let people spit in my face so I would never hear that word again. People were sprayed with hoses, beaten, sent to jail for the same purpose. So now that kids are benefiting from so many older Black's suffering they think the word has no meaning. They are soooooooooo wrong.

Vincent V gave it a9:
Very good, very smart, very correct from what the NY post may have lead you to think.

John M gave it a10:
Of course I have a built in bias, and to the best of my ability I tried to watch Aaron's premier with detached objectivity. Yeah right…fat chance at that. Watching the Boondocks was predictably funny, edgy, and satirical. We have come to expect nothing less of Aaron who is masterfully didactic. Most of us, black and white, can relate to many of the well developed characters. For instance, we all know or have met Uncle Ruckus. His ignorance is legendary and had been the stereotypical manifestation projected of black Americans for years. Uncle Ruckus is alive and well in all of his ignorance, be it at the garden party or malignantly hidden beneath the shroud of a judicial robe. Yes, the Boondocks ruffled a few feathers, airing some very dirty Landry for all of us. I thought the premier was excellent, insightful and inspiring. This show has legs and will likely have a long run. That is because the best part of the Boondocks was watching it a second time; that translates into syndication.

jessica y gave it a1:
It was not funny. I laugh at loud when I read the comic strip but the show just wasn't funny. It doesn't even seem like the same person is writing it. I was embarrassed by the use of the "N" word and I thought that it was completely inappropiate. I am African American and I don't understand how other African Amercans can continue to use that word. No other ethnic group calls themselves by racial slurs but us. Please don't anyone write and tell me that words don't have power because we all know they do. The show was ignorant and I'm shocked.

Bob X gave it a10:
The commentary and satire is much too sophisticated for the average joe but it still was very well done. Definitely not the slapstick comedy that we americans have been force fed for the lat 20 years.

Loved it!!! I can only wonder what my neighbors thought that sound was at 11:35 pm (me falling off my chai).

not very funny...not very clever. i'm sure it was better on paper than on-screen. the design work, on the other hand, is superior, but that's just top-of-the-line lipstick on a really ugly pig.

Karen W gave it a10:
Lasting value! I've laughed more at this premire than I did at the pilot of Family Guy.

James B gave it a10:
Unrivaled in artistic beauty (especailly for a black [african american if your pc] animated tv show) and enough political comments to stur up conversation "the Boondocks" is a delightfully funny and well put together show. Bring on the quote unqoute contraversy because its about time America in this day and age was giving a reason to talk about race and issues that not only touch Black American's but all Americans.

Tamaki N gave it an8:
One word PROMISING! I love the comic strip of Boondocks; I read it everyday in the Los Angeles Times. I have a few of the books and I love Aaron's new school race politics especially the stuff that deals with the neo hip hop generation because I was born into it, have been surrounded by it and view it in a similar way. I watched the premier of the show last night and I thought it's a good start but it could and should only get better from here. I think the writing team could have been a bit cleverer with its delivery of the humor because it felt a bit forced. I think they would benefit from a little help from the “Chappell Show” writing team. I love the look of the show; the graphics and the soundtrack are incredible. I thought he hit the nail on the head with the politics by almost making you feel uncomfortable about race issues but at the same time making you think. When I look back at the first season of shows like “The Simpson’s”, “The Family Guy”, “South Park”, even “The Chappell Show” (didn’t peak until season two) etc. they all come out of the gate running but none of them reach their peak until a few seasons out of the gate and I just hope that this show is given the chance to reach it’s peak because, it’s definitely got potential to become a classic.

You won't confuse this with any other show, trust me. Some of the sharpest black comedy writing combined with a style that isn't Anime flavored. It's authentic anime. American TV and cartoons have turned a corner on this one!

Jonathan H gave it a9:
Fantastic stuff. Japanese anime style, with distinct Afro-American stylings and themes, but funny in the same universal sense as Chappelle and Mencia manage to be.
