After playing through Battlefield Bad Company, it's hard to go back to games like this. I can shoot RPGs or the like at a building all day long and...nothing. A scorch mark decal, which is at the same 1999 tech level as COD 1. IW needs a new engine similar to Frostbite. I've been a COD fan since the first game, but the formula is still exactly the same; a very narrow linear take-you-by-the-hand experience. It gets better looking with each iteration, but that's really the only "improvement". No innovation. Stuck in a rut. I recently got this on sale at half price, so that factors into the score. If I'd payed full price, there would've been a point knocked off.

This was a great FPS game in addition to the Call of Duty series. Before I played MW1, I first played MW2, and upon finding it fun and later stumbled on to Metacritic to discover the high scores its prequel has received, is when I had decided to buy it. I had to give this game a score of 10 in order to make up for some of other people's mistake of accidentally giving MW1 a lower score such as zero while the comment was purely praising it. Simple mistake people do, and simple fix that we can do.

The best 1st person shooter ever created. The single player campaign is too short but saved only by the great multiplayer. But as I said about Modern Warfare 2 it's alot of money still to fork out if you haven't got Xbox live.

game is quite good very nice story line keeps you on your seat online simply put awesome countless houres spent on this game

David c gave it a2:
Wow, how is this getting such a high score? campaign took me 3 and a half hours!!!! Absolutely ridiculous. Does anyone remeber half life? it took days to get through and was far less linear than this. The only saving grace is multiplayer which is decent but the maps pale in comparison to cod 4. Im utterly dissapointed.

James N gave it a2:
This is the GRAYEST game I've ever seen, it looks like they actually made an effort to use a limited color palette with gray as the base. The story mode has a bunch of twists and turns, too bad they are the SAME twist about 17 times. They have giant plot holes all across. I think the real low point of this game is the death streak. So I'm doing terrible and now the game is plastering it on my screen that because I suck so badly they need to give me an edge. Not that it matters because the edge lasts just long enough to run out a full minute before I see anyone. So lets see, I can't see anything because its all gray, and the game rubs loss in my face. Well don't worry because it still can get even worse. Normally kill streaks are determined pretty much randomly by luck... and im not saying everyone because some people get it regularly with great skills. For the most part however its luck. So, Hardline, Grenade Grenade Turrent, Helicopter, NUKE. Seems to be the common trend of this game. They seem to fail to realize that in a real warzone all this guided killstreaks stuff is balanced because there is thousands of people fighting. In a map where there is only 8 people on each side a guided missile is completely overpowered. Lets finish off this review with the fact that you can pay extra to start off with the end game gear, and whoever has the higher level weapon always wins.

Jeff S gave it a5:
It's pretty cool, I'll admit, but I think it's total B.S. that there's no indicator of when you're going to lose the hammer. I smash like 6 barrels and then just as I'm about to smash the 7th, the hammer disappears. And who builds a ladder that doesn't go all the way up? Gorilla graphics are pretty cool and the bump mapping on rolling barrels is photorealistic. I hope that eventually you actually get to rescue the girl.

chris ob gave it a3:
The most dull, and boring game I've ever played in my life. The SP is just a dull, boring , linear, cliched story line that is easy to beat even on the hardest difficulty. AI just stand there and enemy AI chuck grenade upon grenade at you. There is nothing original about this storyline. MP is the same way, the gameplay is shallow, and the maps linear and badly designed. Perks make the game way too easy to be good at, that anyone can pick the game up their first time and go 40-4 on it. Kill streak rewards in combination with the perks just make this one of the most unbalanced games ever. COD 4 is just another generic overhyped game on the consoles. No variety, nothing new, nothing innovative, and nothing spectacular. The sequel will be just the same, just more unbalanced.

Simon M gave it a9:
People complain about this not being a competitive FPS - they are obviously not into customized games. Aside from that flaw, COD4: Modern Warfare has a very memorable campaign with interesting characters (except for maybe the player's) and great voicework. The graphics are top notch for the year that it was released. The first player mode is only flawed because of the enemy spawning system. Mutliplayer on the other hand has proved its point after years of age - this is absolutely a classic. The leveling system and weapon/class customization through perks changed the game. The maps are all great (a few have some unfortunate choke points). Spawn killing by non-grenade methods is difficult when both teams get used to how spawning works. People don't realize that this game isn't about rampaging. It's about survival and kills. Each match has its own momentum swing. Hopefully the sequel will get rid of the sticky aim and spawning flaws in both first player and multiplayer. Otherwise this is a very memorable game.

One of the best shooters, and best games, ever. The singleplayer, while short, is just amazingly well-done. And the online is very addicting and well made. Also, it helps that it's a popular game, as people still play it to this day.

J. S. gave it an8:
A pretty decent FPS without a lot of unique single player features. The sniping mission and the AC-130 mission were the best points, but it did have some interesting combat throughout the story. I personally thought World at War was a much better game, especially multiplayer.

Joshwa R. gave it a9:
A great game. The single player is short and the play is generic. But the plot line and the story behind it is as good as if not better than any other FPS out there. That makes up for the lapses in play and in the shortness of the story. Why add fluf to appease gamers who would in turn complain of a generic story. The multiplayer is fantastic. Albeit a little glitchy and kinda hard at the start when you get good you will have fun. Most of the complaints about this game are minor bugs or just a bunch of whiners complaining about random crap they dont like. They need to get another game not turn off potential players.

Mike L gave it a10:
Wow... all the hate is amazing. The story mode was linear, but sometimes you need linearity to achieve a focused story. There are plenty of sandbox type games and 'freedom' games out there, yet most are only played through once anyways. The default mode is somewhat easy, but that's why there's a hard mode. The veteran challenge will definitely test your skills, as well as having you throw the controller at some parts. (It's almost as cheap as the endless flying bat respawns from the old NES Ninja Gaiden series.) Anyone who rates this below 5 is, in my mind, just trolling.

George gave it a6:
Uninspired, dull, and nothing new. Single-player is akin to having your hand held on a tour through an interesting locale, but one that is fret with boring and unimaginative pit stops. Each pit stop amounts to, more or less, a shooting gallery. Multiplayer is what I would call completely unoriginal with a twist. Deathmatch, the outdated stand-by, and Team Deathmatch (in essence, deathmatch without the ability to shoot certain people) are present, of course, as well as a multitude of other slight variations. The slight twist is two things. One, the ability to rank up, complete challenges, and unlock additional guns, equipment and perks. And, two, the ability to call in some form of support as a reward for killing sprees. Unfortunately, you unlock, at most, a handful of guns where one is a clear winner in each category. Equipment is mostly useless, and perks are unreliable, ineffective, useless, or all three. Calling in support during a match amounts to rewarding luck with an unfair advantage. Being harassed by an AI with the equivilent of autoaim and wallhacks defeats the purpose of multiplayer.

Garrett L gave it a6:
This game is so overrated and isn't even that fun to play online. The story in single player is the most generic story ever, terrorists with nukes. The regenerating health make it so easy to beat it this game could play itself. It is is fun but really just another generic fps on xbox 360 over hyped.

Jacob M gave it a9:
I agree with what some people have said before, the multiplayer is what keeps this game popular almost 2 years after its release. The campaign is average and was not engaging enough for me to want to play through it again, except for getting some achievements. However, the online multiplayer is insanely addicting and fun! i was not a fan of FPSs and was horrible at them until i played CoD4 online multiplayer. Yes, some of the maps are taken right from the campaign, but, to me, that doesn't matter. They are still very interesting and make the online game play unpredictable. Both the campaign and the online multiplayer are superior to that of CoD WaW in every aspect. If you don't know which one to buy, certainly buy CoD4. WaW is garbage compared to this game. However, Modern Warfare 2 is coming out in less than 4 months, so you should probably save your money for that game.

j h gave it a7:
Fortunately I'm unbiased enough to not mark off a huge load of points just because I don't like the overall userscore. I feel a 7 is representative of the game, unlike the kind of scores it's pulled elsewhere. CoD4, like the many CoDs before it, is extremely linear. Someone actually had taken the position on the Destructoid forums that linearity doesn't make a game bad. He's wrong and right; non-linearity extends the life a game by presenting the player with multi-faceted decisions, warranting extended playthroughs and evoking the emotion of 'freedom' that you don't get in linear games. Linearity only works if the game is really long, and that's exactly where CoD4 commits its greatest sin. It's short. On default difficulty I completed it in 4 hours, without even trying. Thankfully it was a rent. Haven't gone back to it since.

michael k gave it a10:
Single Player is irrelevant in this game. It's not about that so stop complaining people. Simply put the online play is the best available. It will take days to be able to compete with other players but once you get a prestige under your belt it is just THE best social online experience ever.

Gras gave it a2:
The reason why my score is so low is because of how overly hyped and overrated, and don't forget disappointing, this game is. Multiplayer is the only thing which keeps it driving, the single player campaign is way too average. That's one of my beefs with the CoD series, the SP Campaigns are more of an arcade shoot-em-up instead of a real, entertaining game with an engrossing story. The graphics are way too stale, and textures are horribly undetailed. Or maybe I think that because I play too much MGS4 and Gears of War? But for a game this hyped, the graphics are a major letdown. Now, when compared to Halo, this game is better just on the terms of how even more overrated Halo is. I'd still prefer to play Halo once in a while rather than COD4.

Jon gave it a10:
Definitely a must have. It might even be the single, greatest first person shooter to date. The campaign, while short, is nothing short of amazing. It never lets up on your journey from the beautiful deserts of the Middle East to the abandoned buildings of Pripyat, Ukraine and beyond. For people going at a leisure pace, it might clock in around 10 hours. The multiplayer is what sets it apart. As much as I do love Halo, CoD multiplayer is in my opinion better. I can only hope that Modern Warfare 2 can deliver, since there's massive hype on it.

Zack M gave it a10:
COD 4 is amazing. Although the game was costly, I soon realized it was money well spent once I began to play it. The game defiantly lived up to the hype for me. The graphics, game play, and replay ability factor were all there. BTW, this game is very similar to SOCOM US Navy Seals. So, if you loved SOCOM (as I did) you’ll probably enjoy COD 4 very much as well.

Jukka S gave it a10:
I'm making this review now, May 2009, after many games I waited for a very long flopped, I have always came back to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This game has that something, that doesnt let go, the singleplayer is just perfectly long that you complete it over a weekend, or faster if playing on easier difficulties. The multiplayer, is something never seen before, near perfect. Yet CoD4: Modern Warfare has got some minor faults, few bugs still remain and few other small mistakes. But this has absolutelly no effect on the quality of the game, these minor faults do not shatter the strong bulletresisting glass of CoD4. A mustplay for every fps fan, and any other.

Rowan F gave it a9:
I love Halo 3. I also love COD4. Now i think i'm about the only gamer ever to have said that ever. They are both realy good in different ways. COD4 offers a tactical and beautifuly thought out singleplayer experience displayed in beautiful graphics. Needless to say that it completely the reviatalises the Call of Duty experience with all of its revolutionary ideas. It truly is refreshing to see a game with such scope and imagination. The multiplayer is also a great, if sometimes slightly repetetive, experience. Having said all of this, though, whereas COD4 beats Halo 3 hands down on imagination and original gameplay ideas, it falls just short of Halo 3 when it comes to overall fun factor. That is, once you get past Halo's confusing plot line and complete lack of new ideas.

Dominik J. gave it a9:
This is one of my favourite games. When I got this game I couldn't stop playing it until it was done. Great simple controls, cool environments and a really interesting story (but too short). Multiplayer is also the only multiplayer I play because its SICK. I hope call of duty 6 will make enemy killing bloodier, missions more open-ended, make enemy and friendly AI smarter, environments more destructible and flammable and the story longer because call of duty must enter the generation of realistic AI and open ended mission design.

Jack D gave it a9:
This game is very overhyped. Its good and the multiplayer is very good aswell but the single player was alright for one play through but far to scripted for even a second play through. the story is your typical war story but its not terrible the single player is about as long as other games in the series and the multiplayer will last you a long time. there is no co-op mode. probably because the levels in single player don;t really allow for any tactical situations so throwing even one more player in probably wouldn't help at all. That brings up my biggest problem with the games singleplayer its very scripted meaning the if you play through on the same act again your going to have the excact same expireince as the first. if you enjoy havin g two or more roots to an objective than call of duty is not a game for you there is only one way to complete the game. The enemy AI is also scripted, they will stay the same place the entire time and just shoot at you regardless of you shooting at them. also they throw grenades way to often. you will die way more from grenades then gunfire. another problem is that the gameplay is an excact replica of the prior games in the series, the only difference is that now your in modern day instead of WW2.Alot of people say that call of duty 4 looks like a movie thanks to its graphics but its also alot like playing a movie in that thou really don't feel like you have any freedom at all. The graphics are not quite as amazing as everybody is saying they are They are incredicle but the envirorments may seem big due to the enormous backdrops but the actuall amount of terrain that your aloud to travel across is very little which takes you out of the game when you can't hop over a road block 1 ft tall. Even with these issues going against the graphics its hard to deny that it does have those moments were you might actually think your watching a movie but what takes you out of the expireince somewhat is the sound. the gun sound are pretty good but what really sucks is that they don't cary theselves realistically across the battle field and sounds directly behind you get lost. it would have been great for multiplayer if the sound worked because then the silencer may be actually useful. speaking of the multiplayer its the only reason i bought the game. Its amazing but still not quite as good as Halo's It has a good ranking system byt the fact that you have to earn the game types by ranking up is retarted. the other issue is that the maps are ripped straight from single player locations which doesn't make alot of sences seeing as the game has a very linear progression. If you don't have online then stay away from this game but if you do have online then go ahead and buy this game just don't expect a single player that you will play twice because you will be lucky to play through it once.

Paul S. gave it a5:
The game is fun...for a bit. I don't know what people are so mad over with this game, over all I feel it wasn't and still isn't worth the price you pay for it. While it seems like its a good SP game and a good MP game it falls on its face in terms of longevity. I know most CoD4 fans hate Halo, but the comparison is there in terms of replay value. I can find 10 reasons off the top of my head to play halo again, Single and Multiplayer, I can think of maybe 2 for Call of Duty 4. Its good, but not as good as everyone says it is, thats why I voted so low. To much hype for not enough return.

Hagen M. gave it a6:
COD4 has an amazing campaign mode with many jaw dropping moments. But it only lasts for a short while. The multiplayer is great for about a week when you realise that you're doing the same thing everygame. The skill level is not even here. 1 shot and the other guy is dead in most cases. The game needs better custom games to keep the longevity of Halo.

Matt C. gave it a10:
Amazing game. Multiplayer alone worth the price.

B M. gave it a10:
This game Is just SICK! One of the best all-around games I've played. Made me say Halo what? But I am sick of all these people complaining about the campaign being too short- Turn up the difficulty and I promise you that it will take you a lot longer to beat. It will borderline piss you off.

Khristian R. gave it a9:
COD4 is the best in the series so far. The solo story would be a 5* film if it got made into one. Not only does this improve on the previous titles, but the online mode is amazing and plays so great. Its hard to describe into detail with the amount of War Games on the market, but if I could recommended it in one setence it would be this. One of the best war games I've ever played, with one of the best Multiplayer online modes ever. SCORE : 94%

[Anonymous] gave it a9:
Great FPS. Good storyline. Easy controls. Fun gameplay. Fantastic replay value with online multiplayer. Co-op campaign is the only thing missing from this game.

Michael S. gave it a9:
Still an extraordinary game, but COD4 on the 360 is the lesser of the three versions. It especially pails in comparison to the PC verion which is THE version to get.

Ibrahim D gave it a9:
Doesn't disappoint, Multi player and storyline(including game play) are all done in a superb manner.

Andrew D. gave it a0:
This is definately a great game. what I do not understand is why people take the time to say this game is broken in all ways when it is clearly not. They must like attention. The ONLY negative thing I can say about COD4 is that sometimes it becomes very frustrating when you face people who play it way more than you do.

Halo Lover gave it a1:
This game is steaming munt, compared to Halo 3!

Joey G. gave it a1:
Pure crap... I urge you to buy Halo 3 its a much better game the campaign is longer and if you play through it its not like COD4 where one play you have seen it all.

kip a gave it a5:
I agree that the single player is very fun and interesting with many characters to keep the story moving and give a sense of realism. I was disappointed with the graphics though, all the guns looked awesome and animations perfect but all the colors seem to be washed out and dull. I would play on line looking at a guy wondering if hes on my team because every character is just a different shade of gray. I severely hate the online gameplay. I dont know where to start, the perks probably seemed to be a good idea in the production room to give the player a more customizable character. well, the perks just ruin it.... a guy can take a .50 caliber sniper rifle to the chest and just keep on running just because he has juggernaut? in reality that would tear a man in half. i also hated that they didn't make a rate of fire cap on pistols, so if your in last stand just smash right trigger and unload 12 shots in half a second. also from the point when you "kill" a guy and he slide into last stand bullets don't register, so you will shoot him maybe 17 times before they die. I thought this game whas about realism. OK WTF is with the knife, i am used to playing games where you have to pull out the knife and use it by itself and it takes 2-3 hits. but no in this i guess you can whip out a knife instantly and stab a guy in the foot from 3 feet away a get the kill. in conclusion great single-player game with stellar fps mechanics but on the other hand multi-player is one big game of grab ass, no real skill involved, spawning into gunfire, knifes doing 5x more damage than bullets, no team strategy involved in public matches makes it dull and frustrating.

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
This game makes me left halo 3 behind for a while.360 version is better than ps3 cuz its more smooth in online mode.

Jacob L. gave it a9:
Call of Duty was a great PC shooter Call of Duty 2 was a great Xbox360 launch title Call of Duty 3 was still good but a disappointment by some a nightmare for others. Call of Duty 4 is an amazing Xbox360 and perhaps one of the best first person shooters out there. The single player campaign is intense. Has a story that is action packed and rarely has a dull moment. One minute your engaged in massive battle and next sneaking through enemy territory in gillie suit. The campaign truly takes advantage of the setting being present day. This is shown through the weapons, missions, and vehicles. The campaign may be short but it is truly amazing. The multyplayer is also very fun to play. There is a lot of customizing for your character including weapons, perks, and cameos, oh my! Once you level up all the way you can even enter prestige mode where you start over with a symbol indicating you leved up and gave up everything. Despite all this greatness there are some minor flaws in the campaign. For one thing sometimes your objective is a little unclear and I sometimes found myself restarting the level just so I could hear the important dialouge again. But again this can easily be overlooked. If you can get Call of Duty 4 don't hesitate you'll love it. This is one of the best 360 out there. One thing to note though once you've played this you'll most likely rarely/ever play Halo 3 again. So if you haven't bought it yet (which is very unlikely) or are still not done with it yet be warned. Call of Duty 4 is somehow superior to Halo 3 in every way unimaginable and has fun all over it and personally I wouldn't want it any other way.

chump gave it a7:
I bought this game after being told by everyone that it was the best multiplayer game for xbox live - and the best shooting game as well. I have been cranking a lot of Battlefield:Bad Company .. until I bought this game. In hindsight - COD4 - while good, is not up there with BC. The limited arenas/lack of free roaming, no destructible environment, no tanks or vehicles .. most disappointing. Granted - there are plenty of online game options. A great game - just didn't quite live up to the hype for me though.

The single greatest game to ever grace my disk drive. This is a near perfect masterpiece of a game. From the intense singleplayer campaign, to the endlessly replayable multiplayer, this title is flawless. Although Co-Op campaign would be nice, I won't fault the game for not having it.

Cameron S. gave it a9:
One of the most intense and cinematic campaigns ever made, alongside with an incredibly deep multiplayer make this a must have for gamers.

Sawyer C. gave it a10:

The online experience is ideal for a highly competitive superfreak like myself. Modern Combat is absolutely the best first person shooter ever made. Thank you Infinity Ward and please continue building more maps for us to enjoy!

Gils T gave it a10:
This is one of the best shotters i have played in a long time even if the physics are not the best it is kind of funny that if you are in oldschool mode if you shoot someone with a pistol that they take a backfilp and they twist their waist in a circle

J G gave it a10:
Anywhere between 9 and 10 in my view, went with 10 because some are giving very low scores for a short (6 hour) single player campaign. If you only play single player with this game then you are missing the point. That being said, the single player is still enthralling and despite its length is very fun. This is one of the best if not the best multiplayer games for the 360. It is the best multiplayer game I have ever played. If you have a gold xbox live account, get this game. If not, get one, then get this game.

Peter C. gave it a0:
wow. this game is the biggest piece of garbage ever. i'd rather eat garbage. the graphics are the worst ever in a game. they are probably worse than the N64. and don't even get me started on the framerate issues. the game's character movements are terrible and choppy, the characters all look like robots, and the game constantly freezes. also everyone knows that nobody uses guns in a war; what kind of bullsh*t is that; everyone knows that they have pillow fights.

Sam B. gave it a10:
I've never considered myself a hardcore gamer prior to the release of Call of Duy 4. The single player mode is the perfect length, it throws tons of action at you but without going overborad. The story is predictable, but the game's personality makes it worth while to keep playing. Perks such as the cheats and the epilogue are funny and entertaining. But the meat, in my opinion of the COD sandwich is the multiplayer. Infinity Ward made leveling up and completing challenges feel better than it should. Framerate during online play is great, all the guns are balanced perfectly and each map offers it's own set of pro/cons you must learn at your own discretion. It's the features like a hit icon to let you know your bullets have reached another player and killcams so you know not to make the same mistake twice that well round and polish the multiplayer. I honestly have no complaints about this game, overall, singleplayer is great, multiplayer is great, controls works great and the game is just plain fun. This game is not about art direction or camera angles, it's about fun, the game is f - u - n.

Sam M. gave it a10:
This game gats a 10, Just for the online mode, with lots of modes available, Excellent maps. this game just keeps you coming back for more. Offline it is a solid shooter which will please all fps fans and would be an 8/10.but online this game rocks.

Ben W. gave it a10:
This is without a doubt the best FPS ever made, and I highly doubt that there will be anything that comes remotely close to surpassing COD4 in the genre for years to come.

Bad Hat Harry gave it a9:
(I would give this game a 9.5 but there is no 9.5 in the score rating database thing) This game is an amazing achievement in 360 history. Top-notch graphics, excellent campaign, awesome muliplayer! This game has it all.

John K. gave it an8:
I would give it an 8.5 if i could. This is the best looking game I have ever seen. 60 fps and phenomenal graphics make it a visual masterpiece. But there are some issues. With the single player there is no enemy A.I. They will do the exact same thing on every play through. If you are playing a tough part you can literally memorize every enemy's movement and act accordingly. Unlike other shooters like gears of war and halo 3, the enemies do not react to you other than ducking. This makes it extremely boring on successive play-throughs. Additionally, on veteran difficulty, you will run into a few particularly frustrating parts that require you to either memorize the enemy movements or get lucky as hell by finding the one place that they don't seem to shoot at. But you're not buying this game for single player are you? The multiplayer is very good, but not very well polished. The level design is not as good as halo 3 and you can use the same strategies for almost every map. Not much variation in that. Spawning is absolute garbage. You will spawn into an airstrike at least once a game and enemies will spawn behind you in your own side of the map. Unlike halo (i feel the need to compare it to this because I feel they nailed the respawn system) in COD 4 it is very easy to get locked in a spawn trap which gets frustrating. Finally with multiplayer, the matchmaking system is very bad. You can be matched with people of any skill/experience which makes a difference when higher levels get better perks (in addition to the likely skill differential). You will also find yourself joining games that are in progress only to spawn and find that you have lost. That is rather annoying. Having said all that about the multiplayer, it is still incredibly fun and I find myself playing it way more than I ever did with halo. Summary: Cons-- Completely scripted enemy movement, unpolished multiplayer which needs improvements in matchmaking system, map design, and respawn system. Pros--Absolutely stunning visuals, High replay value on multiplayer. Multiplayer is very fun and offers enough to compensate for frustrating respawn and matchmaking issues.

Its the perfect online multiplayer experience. Every fps that came before paved the way for this, the ultimate online experience. It borrows a little from every game that came before it, to our benefit as critical gamers. I sincerely hope that by raising the bar for everyone else, some game company will be motivated to exceed what COD4:MW has achieved.

This game ROCKS. It may have a few flaw, but I can't think of them right now because of how fun and addicting this game is. The multi player aspect of the game is awesome. This is a must have, but it will ruin you because you won't be able to play any of your other FPS games.

Tom S. gave it a9:
Even after all the hype and anticipation, Halo 3 and Rainbow Six Vegas (good though they were) were poor compared to this game. It boasts awesome graphics and sound, and with great variety of weapons and maps, this could well be the best online FPS ever. The only thing holding it back from a 10 was the short single player but this is still a must-have 360 and PS3 game.

David G. gave it a10:
I never played a war game in my life until I played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and let me tell you this game changed my perspective on First-Person Shooters completely. Its single player might be a little short but the online most certainly makes up for it. This game encouraged me to buy more First and Third-person shooters. Any gamer who owns a PS3, Xbox 360, or even a PC should definatley purchase this award winning game.

even after all the hype, Boishock was crappy compared to this. only other games that even come close are halo 3, rainbow six and gears of war. and thats close, they don't manage to better. game of the year, hands down... except for maybe Crysis on pc. anyway... brilliant game.

Maslab gave it a9:
This game has incredible graphics, except that everything is either really gray, really tan, or really green, and not much else. The suits are very well done, and even change depending on your main weapon in multiplayer and the map. Gameplay just feels right. The Controls are right, buttons are right, speed is right. It may either a bit clunky or a bit fast, but play with your sensitivity setting until it feels right. Very in depth multiplayer. Higher levels are balanced so that they are any more powerful than lower levels, they just have more junk to play with. This is definitely right up there with Halo and Half-Life.

Logan C. gave it a10:
Great story plot, Amazing graphics, Realistic environments, if your looking for experience thats like actual combat this close to it.

Jean F. gave it a5:
Very good on first play through but very scripted and frustrating to play for achievements.

Chris B. gave it a10:
the games amazing... yea the singleplayer is pretty short... but the online definately makes up for that... halo 3 is a bunch of crap compared to this COD4... a must have game... for people with good taste

Justin E. gave it a10:
This game is amazing. The campaign is relatively short, but if you have any sense at all, you'd know that this game is about multiplayer. The progression system keeps the game fun forever. I got this and Halo 3 at the same time, and I have to say that Halo is completely lacking in most areas compared to CoD4. The multiplayer is amazing and seldom gets old. Halo, on the other hand, gets old extremely quick, and it doesn't help that everyone that plays Halo is a complete A HOLE. Seriously. Everyone. CoD4 is also much more balanced. Overall way better.

M Lambrecht gave it a10:
Call of Duty 4 has the best online game play for the 360. Create your class is one of the greatest things put into a game. I hate having to shoot someone 50 times before they die (Halo3). This is a must have game.

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
3 months after getting this game, it is still in my Xbox and still the only one I play every day. Enough said. Kudos to Infinity Ward for a really great game.

Hugh G Rection gave it a10:
Sweet. IMO best game of 2007.

Sean C. gave it a7:
While the game play is rather fun overall, there are quite a few very obvious flaws, many of which you'd sincerely hope wouldn't be there. One of these flaws is the physics in the game. While you can shoot a cinder block or a pan around the room with your pistol (which is actually quite fun), that's about all there is to it. You can't break glass (except for on cars), you can't break wood (all that happens is a cheesy "hole" appears), you can't break much of anything important. Half Life 2 even had better physics than this. Another flaw is some of the level designs. For example, in single player mode, there are a few areas where you can look up, throw a grenade where it's completely open, and the grenade will bounce off an invisible wall in the air and land on your head. In multiplayer mode, the level designs get very repetitive, and it starts feeling dull very quickly. Some people have mentioned how sniping is so realistic because of the wind and gravity effects, but I'd like to point out that the only time those effects come into play is during a three minute part of a level where you take exactly two sniper shots. In reality, the rest of the game is just like any other game with sniping, except that your guy trembles like a mad man when he's using the scope. Aside from these flaws though, and the rather narrowness of the storyline, the game is pretty fun. Killing people never gets boring in multiplayer, and there's a lot more value to using various guns in this game than there is in just sticking to one or two guns. Customizing your player with different weapons, accessories to your weapons, and perks is a nice addition, and the game is relatively balanced so that each class of gun has a scenario on any level where it can be good.

The best Online game that I've played yet. The Campaign is amazing and the action never stops.

Dave H. gave it a10:
By far the best fps on any platform at the moment.great single player game even if it is a little short but the online mode more than makes up for it.

Dewald H. gave it a10:
Simply the best multiplayer out there! Single player is incredible, I enjoyed finishing it on veteran!

Call of duty 4 is Infinityward's third installment. THis game was ok but it could've been more. Alot more. the graphics are pretty good and some new features like destructible cover and claymors were fun but the game could've done a lot more with its self. The game plays almost identical to Call of duty 2 ( which I loved ) which may sound like a releaf but I was somewhat disappointed with it. Apart from the gun recoil I thought that it felt kind of robotic. It would have been nice to have maybe just little things like you can look down and see your body or included different reload processes, I know that doesn't really matter but a few more big additions would have been nice to like a good cover system. One thing that I really did like was the A.I and movement it looked really realistic. the games sound track has also gone down hill. It is a lot more basic and less moving and compelling as ALL the other cod games. I personally think that they took the wrong path with this game and I hope it will be better next time. I really wanted to love this game Like I loved COD 1 and 2 but right now in my world its just another decent game. Nothing special. If you are reading this review than I would recommend you give it a try you just might like it I know that most people do and chances are you would like it but as for me. No. Just, No I am sorry.

Shay P. gave it a10:
I loved this game! When sniping, you have to have everything right or the shot will miss, such as if the wind is blowing! I say everyone will love this game from the first 10 minutes to the last 10 seconds.

Eddie M. gave it a0:
Absolutely worthless. Halo 3, without the fun. Campaign is exactly the same as past games, and the supremely over-hyped multiplayer is just horrific. People need to hop off, and go back to true FPS greatness; Halo. I mean, unless you feel like hiding and camping the whole time... and then dying in two shots. I play my games for FUN, not realism.

Daniel C. gave it a10:
The best FPS on any console so far, Single player may be short but it has arcade mode which will give at least 4-6 hours ontop,If you play online then the gaming goodness will never end i have played online for over 250 hours and am only now starting to play other games,So if that is not good value what is. thank you COD4!

James B. gave it a5:
The Game essentially consists of 2 different Parts: The Campaign and the Multiplayer Mode. Both parts look awesome at first glance. But a while of testing lets an experienced player look under the hood and what you see there is overly mediocre and obsolete gameplay. First Things first, the Campaign: The presentation of the campaign is top notch. That is of course the reason why this game succeeds in most players ratings. The gameplay on the other hand falls off against that beautiful presentation very harsh. You are confronted with the worst thing of modern FPS games: a linear awefully scripted rebirth of COD2. If one can learn from doom3 debacle ist that no one likes scripted shooters. Especially if the are illogical. Just to name one of such an annoyance: One can shoot out of the enemy helicopters that are the most often the most dangerous thread in the campaign the MG gunner. But in the moment you shot him he is replaced by a new one (unlimited times). The multiplayer has a slightly different presentation that does not look so well like the campaign, but the field of depth effect looks in online mode great as well. The problem with online mode is the fact that your success mostly depends on how often you have played multiplayer and how good your connection is to the XBOX that hosts the game. The more often you play the game the better is your weapons arsenal that by default makes you superior to newcomers. That is not a great idea but it is one you can accept. But if you loose your duels against other players although you sawe and shot the first then you get really mad. Even worse is that the engine looses your kills during game. I witnessed with my friends who sat besides me more than once that the in game statistic showed 2 kills on my list and five seconds later my 2 kills were gone and I was again at zero. This happens very frequently and has nothing to do with the score-penalty one gets for killing friendly players. In the end result both parts look really great at first but fall of short very fast if one gets a deeper look at them.

Nick J. gave it a10:
This game was an all around best. I have friends that LOVE Halo and when they bought CoD:4 they were amazed by it. One problem is the headshots. You have to shoot them twice. Also the online cage-match is not good because people "boost" their rank. I hope they know this is against the Code of Conduct for Xbox Live.

Mike J. gave it a9:
The single-player campaign is short but gripping. While it does not have the narrative depth of Bioshock, the story thrusts you into a global conflict while making it very personal. There is one moment, that I won't spoil, that was one of the most effective, gut-wrenching moments of any game I've played. The multi-player game is nothing short of a masterpiece. Combining elements of a role playing game, you earn experience and equipment the more (and better) you play. It's highly addictive.

Sam F. gave it a9:
An almost perfect FPS experience. I had no problems with the length of the campaign mode, it seemed as long as any other... I think the problem is it is such a good game you don't want it to end! The mission where you take over the guns on the AC130 gunship is one of the best bits of gameplay I've experienced in years. As for the multiplayer, that is awesome. You really have to be on your toes, using cover sensibly and picking your weaponry appropriately. I also haven't experienced half as much lag as I have on Halo 3 and overall the multiplayer modes are much better implemented. Only fault for me is the dodgy melee button, but that's changeable!

Paul H. gave it a7:
This may be one of the most over-rated games of all time. While the presentation is outstanding the actually gameplay is incredibly frustrating and not particularly interesting. All of the weapons are basically the same, you die by random grenades all the time, there is no real tactical choice in the single player experience. The game developers are forcing you to play the game the way they intended feel is best and do not allow you to express yourself in the least. The only reason my rating is so high is because outside of the gameplay, everything else is fantastic.

Ryencoke gave it a10:
No questions asked, this was the best shooter of 07' (Since RB6: Vegas was released in 06'.). Anybody who gives this game below a 6 is a moron.. Or they're not so big into the FPS shooters. This game is far far far better than Halo in so many aspects. People are saying how it requires no skill to be good at this game, when it most certainly does. The online play for this game is some of the best I have seen in a long time. Runs perfect, and is better than the PS3 version (I have played both online and offline). Best game on the market until Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

Simon P. gave it a9:
As a single player experience this is arguably second to Halo 3 or Bioshock, but add in the superbly implemented multi-player aspect and it’s a real contender for best FPS on the Xbox360. There’s nothing intrinsically new in the core online gameplay but what is there is very slick and well presented. What keeps me coming back for more though is the urge to unlock those elusive new weapons, upgrades (perks), challenges etc. So, as well as making you want to play it more online COD4 actually rewards you for doing so, which is quite unusual with the FPS genre.

Adrisn gave it a10:
Pretty much perfect game. Now everyone thinks they wanna be in the military.

Max S. gave it a10:
Simply put "the fun never stops" . From the training course, to the end assault at 20000 feet, this game just rocks. Oh yeah the Multiplayer is pretty good too!

John D. gave it a9:
The campaign was a little short but it was one of those 70-30 games, 70% is directed toward multiplayer and 30% toward campaign, but to say the least, the campaign is the best it have played in a long time.

Eddie E. gave it a10:
Story mode might be short, but it was well put together and i wouldnt change a thing! Multi-player is so much fun, you can get addicted very easily! best game there is!

Colin gave it a10:
What else can I say! After playing nearly all of the xbox360 'killer-aps' of the last year, inluding, Halo 3, Mass Effect, The Orange Box and Bioshock I can confidently conclude that COD4 is the best of the lot. The single-player is short, but every single minute is exihillarating, and so compressed with quality that it's comparative to playing five 'alright' games. Then the multiplayer is also in a league of its own, I don't understand why so many people bang on about Halo 3's multiplayer, this game leaves it K.I.A in the Live battlefield. If you like games then you owe it to yourself to play this. An instant classic.

Elisio S. gave it an8:
First off, I'd highly recommend this to anyone that wants a purely multiplayer based experience and doesn't have qualms about spending $60 on such a game. Now, if you're like me, and you want something that's a bit more of a "complete package" for $60, then Call of Duty 4 may not satisfy you. The anemic campaign makes Halo 3's length seem epic in comparison. To add insult to this injury, the achievements are all based on the campaign. Sure you get the "arcade" mode, but there aren't any achievements for doing things like getting a high score in said arcade mode. The campaign itself is pretty good, its just too short for its own good. It can also be very repetitive after awhile, but non-standard missions, such as a sniping and gunship one, break this up and create some amazing moments. The enemy AI isn't particularly impressive. What the game does well, is very solid however. The multiplayer is very, very polished and the graphics are nothing short of great. In comparison to other Call of Duty games, this one doesn't feel as "pop n shoot" and this is mostly because of the new modern setting. For example: an M4 equipped with the M203 'nade launcher makes it pretty tempting to run n gun, whereas an M1 Garand in the hedges of 1944 France had the tendency to make you take your time and conserve ammo with precise shooting. Overall, I liked the game just like I liked CoD2 and CoD1, but ultimately it was just too short for me to actually buy it. I simply borrowed it from a friend and beat it in a single midnight to wee hour of the morning sitting. Its a shame that it was so short. It really left me craving for more, but maybe that's a good thing. Otherwise, it might have gotten repetitive to the point where its boring if the developer ran out of ideas to keep it fresh. Buy it used for the XBox Live experience or borrow it for a weekend or two like I did. Its worth a playthrough for sure.

CMode gave it a10:
Absolutey AMAZING in every aspect except length, but that is made up for with the hours spent playing multiplayer!!!

Pvt Castle gave it a10:
Me and my friends play the online part all the time, this game is awesome. You can shoot through walls (realistically of course) and everything. I haven't really been able to find any flaws except the servers suck, it kicks you offline a lot but im not sure if thats not just because i have a German internet connection. Either way it is a must buy game, Im actually in the Army and the weapons like the M16 A-4 and the AK are very realistic. I would recommend to everyone.

i have finished the game and i thought it had everything it was superb and it was detailed with great first person shooting and cant wait for call of duty 5 to come out

J. D. gave it a10:
Fantastic single player + multiplayer with gorgeous graphics make this an easy purchase. Forget Halo and buy this game. You'll understand when you are launching bombs from an AC-130 and watching the guys on the screen fly all directions.

Ryan P. gave it a10:
Best game of 2007 and best FPS in a long time. Single player was a little short, but multiplayer part of the game makes up for it. I don't know why people would rate it a 1 or 3, but it is the best game of 2007 (yes, better than Halo 3).

Jacob H. gave it an8:
Its a really really great game, and don't forget that, for several reasons. The graphics are brilliant, the single player campaign is compelling, surprising and inspiring, and the multi-player is brilliant. There are also a ton of cool features that other games dont have (like being able to shoot through walls). Only Halo 3 beats it on online play but thats not for now. It loses the two points because the single player campaign in very short even on the harder settings, you cant have 2 players on the same Xbox online (like Halo 3), and the AI can be really really retarded sometimes. Also the fact that no matter how many times you're allies die in the campaign another one pops up from behind to "help".

Eric G. gave it a9:
The campaign is nothing special pretty much feels like the other CoD's but online is very involving, you can hold your own with the default classes and weapons but leveling up to unlock more weapons, accessories, and job classes pulls you in this is my new favorite online game.

The Dude gave it a9:
This game is kind of tough to grade. The single-player mission is the best military game single-player experience I've ever had. It was phenomenal. I wasn't even looking forward to playing it because I thought I was sick of military games. The presentation, the variety of missions, and the immersion and excitement levels were just awesome. They did a great job with it. However, the single-player mission is very short. It took me about 8 hours and I kind of took my time. So it was a ten for quality, but the quantity sets it back. That would be made up for by the replay-ability of the multi-player, except for I didn't like the multi-player. Granted, I only tried it for a few hours, so it might just take more getting used to, and I didn't get to try all the modes. But so, since I didn't enjoy the multi-player, and the solo campaign is so short, I can't quite give it a perfect ten, though it seems like a crime to not give it a ten considering how excellent the single-player mode was while it lasted.

Tony G. gave it a10:
SINGLE PLAYER: Who cares? MULTIPLAYER: 96+ game hours and it's still awesome--CoD 4 is the best FPS available on a console. You can kit out your player for whatever style you want--sniping, run & gun, explosives, heavy support fire, and just about any other bizarre combo that you can dream up. Best of all, you can make these ideas work--no one style is dominant. Graphics are phenomenal, boards are expansive and well thought out, and the sound effects are great. After awhile, you can even pick out the reports of the different types of guns. Buy / rent this title if you're looking for insane multiplayer FPS.

Hard to find bad things to say about tis baby. Yeah the singleplayer campaign might be a bit short, but who buys a call of duty game just for the singleplayer!? When i comes to Xbox live and games, this is the absolute best fps.

J G gave it a10:
Awesome game, the best next gen FPS. The single player is flawless and multiplayer is addicting and fun. A must buy.

Mat D. gave it a3:
Singleplayer game is very short, and once that is finished the game is pointless. Multiplayer is simply a joke, is no differnt then any other crappy FPS online.

Ano gave it a1:
This game is pathetic seriously. GT said Halo 3 is the game of the year, and I am inclined to say that is bullshite also. The Orange Box gets it for me, but this game is by far the most over-rated game of the decade. No ducking, Sniper has the same power as a pistol, simply its shocking. I really can't see how people love this crap!?

Adam M. gave it a10:
Great single player pretty short but best online game ever made, i loved halo3 and the orange box (not so much team fortress2) but this is the best online fps by a country mile.

Pete W. gave it a5:
I have to agree with Max here. The game has the Call of Duty name and good graphics, but the gameplay itself is really mindnumbing. The path is extremely linear in the single player and the 'cool' bits like the sniper shot and the bombing are over in two minutes. All the levels are extremely scripted with alead by the hand nature. The training level and first level are really atmospheric and promise much, but later on the gameplay hasn't evolved sinced games like Socum on the PS2. I started playing one evening and before I knew I was on the Sniper level (at least 2/3 through the whole game). If you are into multiplayer then this is good, but the single player could leave you unmoved.

Mass A. gave it a5:
I really liked the game, so don't get me wrong, but it is disappointing that it is too unrealistic. You see your allies shot down repeatedly and more just run up to replace them. There's never a sense that it's a "real" situation. You find yourself thinking about which spot you have to run to in order to trigger an enemy attack to start, or to stop enemies from running out of a door instead of thinking about how to handle a tactical situation realisitically. This should encourage Activision (AND Ubisoft) to push for more realistic game productions, so that older fan can also enjoy "games". Btww, we should somehow find a solution that kids don't get access to these kind of games. It's a real turn down (to my ego), when I lhave to listen to a kid's voice giving names, bt being the best killer in town!

Nigel T. gave it a10:
I don't think Max D. knows what he's talking about at all. The graphics are probably the most stunning I have seen on the system so far. Then as for people saying the campaign was too short. Maybe you don't get it. The campaign is basically just an introduction to get you ready for what the game is all about, which is the online multiplayer. To those of you out there without Xbox Live, I truely feel sorry for you, because the online modes are what makes this game epic and something you will be playing long after you're done with the singleplayer mode.

L. D. gave it a9:
This game is awesome. The multiplayer kicks ass, but the single player is a little short with not much of a story and a little plot twist, but it's still fun. Co-op would've been nice. But who gives a shit, the mp is frickin fun. I actually liked this game better than hal03.

Tim C. gave it a10:
This game is awseome. Those who call this game mediocre or bad are completely wrong. This game is the perfect FPS. Single player is short and fun, but the multiplayer is ridiculous with an unmatched and incredible depth. I was not a huge fan of FPS or the COD franchise, but this game is perfection. Never have I played a game sooo intense and with 55 levels and prestige mode you could play multiplayer forever.

Bowen L. gave it a10:
To get to know this game, you need to play it for more then an hour. The campaign takes getting used to because of physics and effects not known to other game. One example is shooting through walls. Someone could be confused about this feature, but there is actrually a challenge in the online multiplayer that encourages you to shoots through walls to kill your enemy. The campaign had amazing graphics and is great on hardened or veteran mode, while the multi-player addicts you to numbing visuals and a great sense of emergence. You would have to be a noob or a retard to skip this game. Amazing game, possibly better then Halo 3.

Cody M. gave it a10:
This game was like going to every other game company and just telling them they suck strait to there face. Online is amazing while i will agree that single player is short but if you play it on veteran it is extremely difficult which is better but this game is a must have if you like First Person Shooters.

Max D. gave it a3:
People are stupid. Are you guys blind , graphics are cod2.5 quality while the gameplay is the same as other shooter out there, it brings nothing new to the series.

Rodan M. gave it a7:
While the game is mediocre at best, those who are fanboys of this game will obviously rate it a 10, I have rated it a 7 for obvious reasons. The first being is that any difficuly above normal will show the glaring flaws in the game such as poor AI. Nothing says rush job like AI that has 100% accuracy and wall hacks, not to mention respawning and moving to where is comrade just fell. Multiplayer is available for those who have time to unlock everything. Those who don't will leave the game early due to being able to only select a few beginner weapons at the start. This is especially frustrated when getting gunned down by someone with a better weapon.

Cody B. gave it a10:
The single player is the most intense FPS ever. The gameplay and flow are not as good as Halo 3 but the real part that sucks you in is the multiplayer! It blows Halo 2 and 3 out of the water. PERIOD!

Mcdeath O. gave it a9:
A near faultless games, one of the best looking games on the 360 with one of the best single player campaigns I have played in any game to date. Ok, it was a little short - that's what stops it getting a perfect 10 in my books but the multiplayer mechanic is faultless and addictive and in the 6-8 hours you are actually playing the campaign you are loving every breath-taking minute. Well worth a buy and as a diehard halo fan who was thoroughly disappointed by the 3rd in the series, i seriously recommend this game. A serious benchmark in FPS's...[9.8/10].

Paul C. gave it a9:
The campaign mode is probably not even worth trying, but the online multiplayer is great fun and highly addictive. The only downside is that the online players tend to be a lot more annoying. There's a much higher incidence of racist and homophobic comments playing this game than Halo 3, that's for sure.

Kevin R. gave it a7:
A good game, but the mechanics are not as refined as Call of Duty 2, and several gameplay gimics (such as the AC-130 mission) are just not fun.

Matt M. gave it a10:
Perfect, in every detail. Perfect online, perfect campaign, perfect controls. Perfect.

Max M. gave it an8:
Takes a while getting used to but its fun when you get the hang of it. The weapons need balancing, though. For example, the sniper is useless because everyone dies in one or two hits anyways. Plus theres a frikin kill camera when you kill someone with a sniper. It takes the whole point out of it! Still is a great game though.

Simon C. gave it a10:
Yo, xbox 360 "master". What kind of magical gun are you playing with that doesn't have recoil? I certainly can't just point and hold down the trigger for a kill unless I am two feet from the guy. Idiots aside, this is a great game that has to be the most photo realistic game on the 360. Strategy and skill come into play on every online match. Not to mention a little luck. This IS the best shooter if not the best game to be released on the 360. Eat that Halo3.

Nick K. gave it a10:
Best MP game ever made, runs 60 fps on the 360, I have not ever had a drop yet. Game is a beauty and gives reason to keep playing. SP was the most cinematic game I have played for an FPS. Great Job Infinity Ward, 2 thumbs way up

Nate B. gave it a5:
This game is very very over rated. Basically the same game as all the other CoD's, just prettier. The missions are all almost basically clones of the prior games, and when they do add a little something new it is horribly boring (like when you drop bombs on guys). Sure the game looks amazing and the animations are all really smooth, but its just more and more of the same. No new tactics, no cover system or even the ability to lean, poor story that jumps all over the place, still fight enemies with unlimited amounts of ammo (and men at points) and the only thing destructible are cars (which all unrealistically explode). Stick with R6:Vegas, Gears and F.E.A.R. for now. This game is not what I would expect out of a next gen title as its only a prettier version of the same game released back in 2003.

COD4 Nut gave it a9:
This game is undoubtedly the greatest game ive played on any console. The graphics have stunning detail, the sounds have so much depth, a modern war game which gives you everything with modern weapons and military squads and scenery's that you can sort of relate to. The only reason it was not given a 10 is because you just want the single player mode to go on and on and on but falls slightly short, but the way that infinity ward has made up for this is the intense online mode with tonnes of different modes and player perks and also the ability to call in airstrikes and choppers. AWESOME! kicks halo 3's butt like shaq would kick kobe's. can wait for the next one.

Paul B. gave it a10:
Ok - so the single player is short but it is oh so sweet. It is absolutely stunning in every level. The chernobyl level in particular is probably one of the best in videogame history. Add to that a multiplayer experience that possibly even eclipses that of Halo 3 and you're onto a surefire winner.

Exosus gave it a7:
A good game, all in all, but offline story and online map design hold it back from greatness.

Ben K. gave it a1:
Scripted game, very lame.

Ray B. gave it a10:
The single player mode is getting lots of heat because its short. however, this game is designed in a way to be played over and over again...and the levels are fun enough to make you come again and play. multiplayer is fun also, especialy if you have a decent, well behaved group of people at your side...with microphones...then its really great. i have played halo 3 online and its not as fun as cod 4...not by a long shot. thats a major suprize, considering halo 3 was meant to own xbox live...but cod 4 won that battle hands down. however...the game of the year must goto bioshock.

Chris H. gave it a10:
Besides the fact that this game is absolutely beautiful. It delivers the best console FPS action out there today. The single player story is interesting and engrossing, and the multiplayer level system is he definition of addicting.

As most people have said the single player is good fun but short and the online as plenty of depth, but for me i think the shooting lets this game down alot its not they relistic as you just aim and keep your finger on the trigger button and your gun just stays in the same place, so u dont need to tap the shoot button unlike most realistic shooters, this may seem minor but this alone lets the whole game down for me i would perfer to play Rainbow six or MOH Airbourne.Plus there is no co -op online or off unlike COD2 why?Oh and what makes this different from any other shooter, someone plz tell me.

Jason T. gave it a9:
This is an awesome XBOX LIVE game. The attention to detail has not been lost from single player to multi player. The explosions are heavy, the smoke is thick and the weather is spot on. The feeling of intense battle are as close as you can get it. Without actually knowing what this feels like in real life, in this virtual life you feel the adrenalin pump as you duck and cover as you hear the tink tink of a near by grenade landing at your feet. The dust settles and your on your toes again, firing your M16 or others wildly but with intent. A few men taken down by sure shots follows by the shock of being shot down from a sniper through a distant window draws his breath and squeezes the trigger. You know this as a clever kill camera reviews your last moments from your assassins movements are reviewed. its a sucker punch every time! Along with all that and much more including guns galore, clever perks add to your gameplay such as steady aim, ultra conditions so you can sprint longer and an AVU blocker to make you invisible to enemy radar, it makes it a MUST BUY. trade in your Halo 3s. Trade inyour GRAWS and gear's. This is the only FPS shooter you need. Could be even better with a few neat vehicles.

[Anonymous] gave it an8:
This is a solid game. The actual gameplay is very basic. Multiplayer feels shallow to me because it is all so basic. You run and point and shoot. Others feel it is amazingly deep because of the perks and customization options. Gameplay wise, this game is just another shooter imo. With that said, 16 multiplayer maps, great graphics, fairly smooth networking (on the 360 and PC versions), and tons of maps and weapon combinations make this an easy buy and a must have in most game collections. But this is not GOTY material to me. I've done all this stuff before. Give that honor to something like Mass Effect or even Galaxy.

Alejandro R. gave it a10:
This game is easily one of the top five games of the year. This game is awesome. The campaign has great missions. Online is great, and it has you playing frequently because the more experience you earn, the more weapons and "perks" you unlock. I loved the story and the ending to the campaign. It even includes a bonus mission after the game is beat. One of the reasons the user score is currently an 8.4 is because three people gave this game a 0 because it is not as good as the PS3 version supposedly. You cannot give a game a 0 because it is not as good as the PS3 version. Anyways its a great game, especially since its in Modern times (Hence the name Modern Warfare), as opposed to early-mid 20th century like the other games in the Call of Duty series.

Ross F. gave it a10:
Best Call of Duty to date. Even with the game built to run at 60 fps constantly, the game looks great. Animations are second to none (I'll never get tired of watching someone in a ghillie suit sprint) Single player has a very nice variety of missions that don't grow old. Besides some very very minor issues (most of which, no lean on the console) this game is perfect. The multiplayer is the best on the 360 and contains a wealth of game types.

Fred B. gave it a9:
The story mode was to quike..... but the online play is amazing!

J R. gave it a10:
This is truly the best FPS ever. The single player is not the best ive played (still awesome) but, the mutiplayer brings this FPS game to where none i have ever played have gone. Halo 3 really just got the boot as a GOTY contender now that this came out (thank god)....so it should be between COD4 and Mass Effect.

Mike D. gave it a10:
I have never played a game like this before. It puts you in the thick of military action with a highly engaging storyline and insane graphics and gameplay. This game alone is a reason to buy the Xbox360!

Steve gave it a10:
This game redefines on-line multiplayer. Amazing graphics, depth, and gameplay makes this a top contender for game of the year. For those who complain about the enemy infinitely respawning (which I despise as well) you apparently never have played a COD before because that's what they all do. The game forces you to be good at it. And if you hear anyone complain about the single player campaign's length, tell them to play on veteran like a real player ought to.

Chris L. gave it a7:
This was a fun game game. The level design was great and kept it from getting stale. However, it was way too short, there were no vehicles, and it was too lienear. The story was better than Halo 3 but not the gameplay or multiplayer( i got bored quickly with it). RENT IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!!

Chris S. gave it a10:
I have to laugh at the sony fanboy who keeps posting under a different name but using the same language. Get over it. PS3 is last in the console wars for now and this is a great game on the 360. I haven't played a combat shooter this good since the old Socom2 days. This is by far a better game than Halo3 and should be shooter of the year if not game of the year. You can't go wrong with this one. Condolences PS3 fanboy. I'm sure sony will try harder next time.

Bilo P. gave it a2:
Seriously compared to Halo this is crap! No ducking, no vehicles, no skill and basically the same level designs in multi. Its soo easy its a joke, better off with Halo or GOW.

John P. gave it a4:
I normally don't rate games but I want to save you all some heartache on this one. It is completely scripted which just leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. You will see endless enemies coming out of a doorway until you advance to a specific line then all enemies stop. You will see your allies shot down repeatedly and more just run up to replace them. There's never a sense that it's a "real" situation because of this. You find yourself thinking about which spot you have to run to in order to trigger an enemy attack to start, or to stop enemies from running out of a door instead of thinking about how to handle a tactical situation realisitically. In my opinion this game is just not worth playing and I wish I hadn't wasted my money. Beautiful graphics, good sound, and cool weapons don't even begin to make up for the huge amount of fake scripting and endless robotic enemies in this game. Boo!!!!

Paolo J. gave it a9:
This game was undescribable, and could be found nowhere else. Its online gameplay was fantastic. Though the campaign was kind of short. Other than that everything was wonderful.

Evan G. gave it a10:
This game is so realistic and so modern in aspect of the weapons except for the perks, but the perks are what makes Call of Duty a game. Overall, its sick and i give it a 10/10.

Sean Z. gave it a10:
This is actually much better than the playstation 3 version. Fanboys of the PS3 still won't admit the 360's superiority in games and online. Call of duty 4 completely proves all that the 360 has already said. Great graphics, no lag whatsoever, and much smoother than the PS3.

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
It really is just a great game. Every aspect of it has impressed me.

Andrew J. gave it a9:
After all the hype for Halo 3, BioShock, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect, COD 4 comes out of nowhere and will probably be a multiple Game of the Year award winner, and rightfully so. I've played all of the above games (except Mass Effect, which isn't out yet) and COD 4 easily beats all of them. And I haven't even touched the multiplayer yet. No, seriously. All I've been playing is the campaign. The single player is that freakin' good. Maybe for everyone else it's short, but I'm having a grand old time with it in 20-30 minute spurts, which is all I can handle anyways, as it's so intense. The sniper mission, the camo mission, the Death From Above mission.....each level is like a work of art. Not BioShock-type art, mind you, but art nonetheless. Probably the greatest FPS I've ever played, although I'm not a huge shooter guy, so I haven't played them all. The fact that I'm not a big FPS fan and am still raving about this game should tell you something. If you don't play this game, you are missing out on one of the best video game experiences you'll ever have.

Uncle Douglas B. gave it a6:
This game is grossly overrated. There's really nothing special about it, it's just too linear to have depth and be enjoyable. The controls are wonky (holding down the left thumbstick for running gets annoying) and the graphics are inconsistent. An overall disappointment.

Mike H. gave it a9:
This is an awesome game, the graphics, the movement, and the reality. They did a good job on the movement of the characters and surroundings. But not a perfect 10 because of a mission or two that was insanely challenging to beat, but in the end, that's what made it fun. Best Call of Duty.

Marc S. gave it an8:
Great shooter, just one flaw basically; NO VEHICLES... such a missed opportunity, it's actually hard to believe they're not there. Anyway, therefor an 8 only.

Bickle T. gave it a7:
Okay, it's gorgeous. The sound is great, yada yada yada. But seriously, it's just run and gun. No cover system, no strategy, nada. Just look at the pretty ways to kill the enemy. Oh, and keep in mind the enemy will always spawn in the same place. It ends up being a gorgeous pattern recognition twich factor game.

Andrew M. gave it a9:
Remember all that talk about a "halo killer"? Well I had played Halo 3 for quite some time and recently beat this game and COD4 truly is that "halo killer." The single player is short, but has excellent quality and atomosphere. The online multiplayer keeps you hooked with unlockable weapons and perks that makes you feel like you fully customizing your game plan. The maps, as compared to Halo, are more vast and provide for multiple types of play in headquarters and capture the flag. Now, don't get me wrong. Halo 3 is good, but every second of COD4 is simply a riot to play.

Marc S. gave it an8:
This game is one smooth ride. I must admit that I only play this one online, so can't say anything about the offline experience. Anyway, I'm glad that FPShooters are finally getting almost up to par with BATTLEFIELD 1942 and BF2. Almost because there are no vehicles in this one whatsoever!!! inexcusable, especially when considering that COD3 did have them. Second point of complaint is the Shaky DOMINATION/WAR gametype. I hope that one day they'll make a decent copy of BF2's CONQUEST mode. So where does this leave us? This leaves us basically with good old boring DEATHMATCH and his buddy TEAM DEATHMATCH. Think of all the over-the-top mayhem and über fun were missing out on here without vehicles, and understand that I don't understand why everybody is handing out 10's here.

Limanima gave it a0:
Pales in comparison to the PS3 version with laggy online with constant dropouts. Barely anyone talks online on the XBox while on the PS3 you feel more connected to the community. Longer load times on this version along with worse lighting and textures really ruin the experience.

Mike D. gave it a10:
The single player action is short but very well done leaving wanting much more, But the real value is in the deep level up multiplayer that reawards you for playing well and often, but at the same time keeps the playing feild level that your rank doesnt matter its all about skill. Not to mention that leveling is just about how many kills or games you've won, but more about specific tasks and activities that you most accomplish. Multiplayer also has some many option of game play that all fps fans of any type will have something they love.

Lief S. gave it a10:
Amazing game, it makes halo look like a current gen game. and it took a way less time to make, it shows what game makers can do when they dont just rely on a name and online play, and the online play is realistic which i prefer reather than shooting, gun butting and then grenading to kill someone.

FPS Master gave it a7:
This game's single player is a 9 overall, but multiplayer is a joke. This is why I gave it a 7. The campaign is short, but every level is great on every difficulty even though Veteran gets frustrating at certain points. Great graphics, great weapons, great sounds, great A.I. But the multiplayer is a different story. The more I play it the more I feel like I'm looking at and playing a reworked version of Black Hawk Down on Xbox, meaning it's too fast, looks and feels cheap and plays like a shooter trying to be crazy like Burnout or something. The animations are of Counterstrike level from 1998, the weapons have no weight, the bodies have no ragdolls and just fall over like in Black Hawk Down and the graphics took a huge hit online lighting and framerate-wise. The multiplayer just feels and looks cheap and the perks make it feel even more like a kids game that's hopped up on speed. The bullet penetration was not fleshed out correctly and quickly becomes a gimmick where people just blindly shoot through everything while camping behind the same wall the entire match. And since rockets and grenades don't go through walls too this engine just feels way too gimmicky. There is no teamwork, but it doesn't matter anyway because it's like Quake in that you just die, respawn, run for a few seconds from your terrible spawn points and die again from the same guy that just killed you. Infinity Ward is so much better than this, but you won't see it unless you go back and play Call of Duty 2 which is 10 times better online.

Mitchell C. gave it a10:
Graphic and sound is awesome...gameplay is intense and satisfying.

James G. gave it a0:
Sucks ass compared to the PS3 version. Infinity Ward built CoD4 from the ground up on the PS3, with the 360 version being a port of the PS3's. Game looks alike, but the differences ARE there, hence why most unbiased reviewers praise the PS3's CoD4 with higher regards.

John D. gave it a0:
I have both systems and the reason I give this one 0 is that the PS3 version is just superior compared to this crap. X360 just can't handle what the COD throws at it, framerate drops, graphics are good but not when compared to PS3 version. Also the controls felt better for me with Sixaxis. Iin conclusion if you have both systems get the PS3 version.

Mike M. gave it a10:
Although the single player does feel short, the leveling up through multi player, and the over all level playing feel more than makes up for it.

Jimmy H. gave it a10:
Very good. Only problems are that there is no offline co-op, and that theres only one C-130 map.

Dustin B. gave it a7:
Great graphics, attention to detail, and numerous maps can't help this title from becoming frustrating to the point of no return. Not only will you get killed from across the map, but it could very well be by a pistol. The distance that people can see when not zoomed in is way to far to make this game fun over the long run. And what saddens me more is that the single player is easily one of the best for FPS on the 360 but it only lasts 5-6 hours. If they could have doubled that this game could very still be in my 360, let alone my collection. But alas it is not. Glad i got this via Gamefly first, could have wasted $60 that is now going towards Assassin's Creed.

Jason W. gave it a9:
Excellent game. Very fun. Visually awesome. Definately worth playing.

Mike T. gave it a9:
Halo 3 for grownups, this is the next-gen title that Bungie should've made. Great multiplayer, great singleplayer. Not a perfect 10 because in singleplayer, there are some frustrating points where you restart over and over b/c its not clear exactly what you must do.

Antti P. gave it an8:
Great game, with a small but. Some multiplayer maps don´t have that good graphics. To be honest, some maps look pretty crappy. This is shocking, as we know the quality standards Infinity Ward has become famous of. Some maps like Bog and Backlot just don´t look good at all. I think the problem is with the lighting.

B Dub gave it a10:
Only one complaint about COD4, no online Co-Op. Other than that this game absolutely blew me away. I bought COD4 as a game to hold me over until Assassins Creed, and it ended up being just so much more. Infinity Ward really upped the bar on the typical war shooter with this game. This game experience is more similar to Rainbow 6 Vegas (also awesome) than the previous COD's (minus the cover system). I'm playing the MP a lot right now, and like it a lot, but the single player was probably the best i've ever played. The graphics and sound on a nice system is amazing. The SP isn't very long, but i don't feel it was short either. If keeping the game shorter is what they needed to do to make the game as intense as it is, then i'm all for it. I'd much rather have 5 hours of bliss than 10 hours of boring sameness. This game is an absolute must buy. I'm a previous Halo fan, and enjoyed H3. It doesn't excite me to say that i liked this game a lot better than H3, but i did. The single player story is gripping and just so well done.

War Gator gave it a7:
BAD POINTS: To few maps; maps are to small; no vehicles; no random map generator; no map making tools included in software; well known bug in program, I had to over right a file to fix it, should have a patch out right now for it; to many grenades leading to nade-spamming; program still rewards bunny hopping; more options in console needed for server to control parameters such as number of nades, etc.; more realistic killing, I shoot somebody twice and they do not fall down dead or wounded because of extra +health points; increased ability to move in buildings needed, not enough entrance ways and windows to shoot from. GOOD POINTS: Each game becomes more realistic than the last game; weapons are represented realistically; good graphics; flows well; fighting is realistic; uniforms are realistic.

Bill Cleveland gave it a9:
Single player is short, but to say it is a poor effort is asinine. The single player is as captivating as any i have played. And the fact that it only took about 9 hours to beat doesn't matter much to me, because i'm sure i will get 100 hours out of the multiplayer. Buy this game!

Nick O. gave it a10:
The overall length of the single player was short but one of the more enjoyable campaigns I have ever played. Then theres the multiplayer, which takes all other shooter games, such as halo and battlefield 2. Combines them all plus more to make an amazing gaming experience.

gave it a10:
Although short campaign, it is incredibly well done (especially the British SAS missions). Large variety of different match types for multilayer.

Adam gave it a10:
Although the campaign is short it is non-stop action all the way, and upon completion you unlock a few extra features that give it an even longer life span. Where the game really gets its legs is in its multi-player. I consider it the best an FPS can offer in terms of online play and has my vote for game of the year.

Mike S. gave it a10:
Single player campaign is a bit short, but it's still the best I've seen on the 360. The multiplayer is basically perfect. I've played Halo 3, and I can't even begin to understand why the scores are comparable.

Mike H. gave it a10:
Although the campaign is a tad short, it is brilliantly paced and incredibly atmospheric. Without spoiling it for anyone: the sniper mission, in particular, is one of the best single-player shooter levels I've ever played. With all the challenges and unlockables the multiplayer is deep enough, and has enough room for skill, to make this one you'll be playing for months to come.

Dave H. gave it a10:
This game is pure excellence. It is far worth the 50-60$ spent to buy it. Phenominal graphics, AI, and story make this for a great game. And I'm tired of everyone complaining about a "short single player" because it lasts much longer than 5 hours IF you dont play it on the Easiest difficulties. Buy it.

Eric Atkins gave it a10:
The campaign is unlike any campaign I've played. The multiplayer gameplay is innovative with meta games and great graphics. There is a lot of replayability in this game. I am one of the biggest HALO fans, but I won't be playing Halo 3 until I'm tired of CoD4. Unlike Halo 3 (which seems like downloadable content for Halo 2), CoD4 is fresh.

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
It is clearly superior to ANY other FPS out there, not just Halo 3. And I think the length of the game is perfect; better than how inferior FPS' like Resistance draw out the length simply to make the mediocrity last longer.

lucas38 gave it a10:
Without question, Call of Duty 4 is the best FPS out there! I like Halo 3, but the sheer grittiness and realism of the MP battles in CoD4 make Halo 3 MP feel like a walk through the park. In fact, after a particularly gut wrenching battle in CoD4, I hopped into a MP battle in Halo 3 and it felt downright relaxing! Call of Duty 4 is a white knuckle ride of a game and being a Black male that's saying a lot! LOL!

John S. gave it an8:
The single player game has extreamly high production values in every regard. That said, it's still Call of Duty with the endless respawning bad guys, "on rails" level design, and super-scripted gameplay. It's great, but offers no replay value, unless you're after achievements. The single player is so damn good because there really isn't much diversity. It's also really short (5 hours). Multiplayer is fast-paced action. It has a persistent system for unlocks, ranking, etc. It's awesome. If you want to play this game for the single player, rent it. If you want it for multiplayer then buy it.

Apocalypse B. gave it a2:
Don't get this score wrong, it is a very good game, well at least the multiplayer is. But the very bad propaganda against those bad old terrorists in the Arab lands where fighting is an every day thing, according to most reviewers, is very insulting. And seeing a kid pretending to be on the front line playing this, killing 'these stinking Muslims', made me give this 2.

Travis M. gave it a10:
The most solid realistic FPS that I've ever played. I'm active duty Army (US Military) and must say that this game is the closest you can come to actual combat without having to wear the actual equipment and enlist. Might end up replacing Halo 1 as the best multiplayer FPS of all time. Only a few minor complaints with the perks in the game, but if you have a choice of this or Halo 3... Buy this twice and give one to a friend.

Neil Vitro gave it a10:
One rare, AWESOME, compelling, realistic, incredible gaming experience. It IS too short, because it is so much fun that you can't bear for it to end. Upon beating it, I immediately started playing through it again.

Mike P. gave it a10:
"Halo 3"...what's that? This game is amazing, intense...and the multiplayer is insanely fun, as is the campaign. Graphics are jawdropping, and the physics spot on. The guy who voted 5 out of 10 doesn't deserve to share the same airspace as the rest of us. COD4 is at the top of the FPS heap, and never lets go of your senses.

Michael S. gave it a10:
Wow. By far the best game I have played on the 360. This game is legendary. The amount of detail and care in crafting this masterpiece is dumbfounding. So what if the the single player is a little short. The true beauty of this game lies in it's multiplayer. 16 maps. Fun game types. Rewards out the wazoo. Halo isn't half of what this game is. Beg borrow or steal but get your hands on this game asap. Any time spent playing another 360 game is wasted.

Scott B. gave it a6:
The online play is not nearly as extensive as Halo 3. you and your buddies can't sign online from the same xbox 360 and play social matches together. that's no fun at all. also, the campaign in this game is very short. it may be visually stunning, but visuals aren't everything. this game is overrated. i think i'll stick with halo 3.

Steve M. gave it a10:
This is the best FPS I have ever played. The multiplayer rivals the polish and tight execution of even Halo 3. The campaign, which I am currently working on, is filled with some of the most beautiful graphics, sound, level design, and gameplay I have ever witnessed. Other FPS' may offer different innovations and have their own respective advantages, but overall, this is the best game of this genre I have ever had the pleasure of playing.

BrutalThumb gave it a10:
If this doesn't get game of the year, it will be a true shame. Yeah, the single player is short, but who cares, I would rather have a short campaign that is wonderful than a long one that is dull. And where it truely shines is online. GOTY!!!!!!

Björn H. gave it a9:
Totally awsome! I got this great feeling that makes you sit up all night just to play this game. Incredible great multiplayer, and a great single player campaign that feels like you are one of the members in a special force. Only one thing makes it go down one point is the spawning of the enemies. They appear sometimes on places that were impossible for them to get to. So you for example cant count on that your allies cover your six. Anyway, it is worth the buy.

Michael R. gave it a9:
Its the second best video game behind Rainbow Six Vegas. The graphics are definitely the greatest in video game history. The sound is awesome. There is one glitch but it happens once in a blue moon where the AI stands still while your in front on them and you can shoot them in point blank range. The single player campaign is way too short but thats how it is for most games.Definitely rent it or you could buy it to add it to your collection because its worth keeping.I don't think games can get any better than this game. The start and ending is better then a lot of Hollywood movies.

v z gave it a10:
Want extra hours of campaign game play? Push the difficulty level on notch higher than the recommended one :) Even getting killed is so sweet in such a wonderful game!

David H. gave it a10:
What this game lacks in a single player campaign at about 6 - 9 hours for medium difficulty makes up in absolutely incredible story and the most satisfying game-play, level design, AND "mission objectives" I have ever seen in any Military FPS to date. Some of the levels they made had so much energy I would restart the level right before it finished because I wanted to play it again. There is so much diversity that this game will make you want to play the single player at least twice (Having an arcade mode is a major plus) The Single player is fantastic, but what makes this game special is the most comprehensive and enjoyable Multiplayer that Call of Duty games are known to have. Playing through Xbox Live I can always find a game. The RPG style of leveling up weapons is such a nice touch. As far as I am concerned if you hate FPS in all forms and don't want to shill out 60 dollars for this game. At least go to your movie rental store and try it out for a week - I promise you that you will not be disappointed!

Mike C. gave it a10:
Game of the year by a good margin. Halo 3 is now nothing more than a very expensive coaster after playing COD 4: MW. Purely spectacular and completely addicting, the Halo fanboys may hate to here it, but all facets of COD 4 not only surpass Halo 3, but do so by a healthy margin.

Jordan W. gave it a5:
Its impossible to overlook the impossibly short lifespan of the single player missions. Poor effort! Next time stick with blue ray so you can put in a solid 20 hour campaign.

Inigo M. gave it a10:
AWESOME! Blows away Halo 3!

Kevin L. gave it a10:
This game plain and simple, just never gets old. Awesome from the minute you turn it on, until the next Call of Duty comes out.

Ima C. gave it a10:
If you like fps and tons of action... this game is for you. I've played them all and this sits on top of my list. You cannot go wrong with this game... I've already decided the moment I finish I will start it again. Live is awesome as well...! buy this...

Gator B. gave it a10:
This is the year of the FPS for the 360. Halo 3, Bioshock, Orange Box, and now COD4! The multiplayer is excellent.

Kyle B. gave it a10:
Very few games come out as strongly as this title. This is one of the best ,if not the best, games out. Because of its new storyline nit that is not WWII related, it gives this game its freshness. The game mutliplayer hits a homerun, because of the skill based unlockable, it makes you try the hardest just so that you will be able toget even one kill. So overall I Give this game a perfect 10 out of 10.

Sid C. gave it a10:
This game is instantly replayable, and beats Halo 3 by a milestone.

Arthur H. gave it a10:
Amazing graphics. Engaging storyline. Single player missions feel movie-like. I haven't played a game of this quality in a long time. Probably since Super Mario 64 or the first Call of Duty. Multiplayer is innovative with perks, customizable classes, and fun maps. I felt like I got so much with my 50 dollars. The campaign felt a little short, but if you look at all the work and detail they put into every mission you'll see why. Buy it now!

RoBoT G. gave it a10:
CoD4's multiplayer alone warrants a perfect score, but it doesn't stop there. The single player is great and Arcade mode is super cool.

Caleb T. gave it a10:
This game is FANTASTIC. I was a little disapointed by the last one but this game more than makes up for it with it's overall intensity. From the excelent sneaking missions to the hectic urban battles, this game has it all. Look out Halo, Bioshock, Gears of War and the Orange Box, there is a new champ in town and it's called Call of Duty 4.

Eric O. gave it a10:
Best FPS I have ever played.

Mike R. gave it a10:
This game is so cool, the multiplayer is awesome and the campaign is also awesome. Perfect 10! This game is gaming at its best! YAHHHHHH

Stu W. gave it a10:
Unbelievable game. I wish I can get back to the single player game but I'm hooked on the upgrade-crack system of multiplayer. It's Diablo II all over again, except in a game that keeps your heart racing for hours and blows your ears and eyes away from your head. If you are into FPS you better get this game - now.

Bat Man gave it a10:
Makes Halo 3 seem like dog vomit.

Kyle K. gave it a6:
I think this game is being way overblown. I don't know about anyone else, but I think the game press isn't terribly reliable. Is Halo 3 really a near perfect game? Was Halo 2 for that matter? This is another game where name seems incredibly important--and it should be given that the original Call of Duty took what Medal of Honor did and made it even better. And CoD 2 was great as well. But once Medal of Honor Airborne came out everything changed. Play that game and then come back to CoD 4. The production values are, I think, vastly better in almost all respects--and as far as gameply goes it's open ended and they found a way to improve on the controls. While in iron sights mode you can use the movement keys to peek up or lean left and right. Switching to CoD 4 you immediately realize that that's something you can't go back from; that was a subtle but incredibly compelling change to the game. Admittedly I'm rating the PC version here, but I can't imagine it's a completely different game. Just please don't go out and drop $60 on this; rent it first at the very least. 6/10 for graphical updates and inclusion of an incredibly hard difficulty but boredom and sloppiness otherwise--incredibly simplistic gameplay at times, for example using a Javelin AT launcher: all you have to do is line your sights up with a big rectangle on the viewscreen. Doesn't matter if the tank is even in view--it still knows it's there and all you do is point and click.

Best game I have ever played. Tops halo anyday!

Think Rainbow Six on crack. Call of Duty 4 puts you right onto the action like no game has before. Infinity Ward totally nailed it. If you miss out on this game, you are missing out on one of the best shooters on any platform. You start off on a ship shooting and kicking in doors, the ship is swaying and breaking apart as you are running to flee the doomed vessel. The action intensifies from there.

The graphics are amazing, Couldn't believe what I was seeing. The gameplay was very fluid and enjoyable, perfected actually. I am not far into the game, maybe two hours, but I am addicted.

I haven't been to far into the campaign but what I have played has been as good as an FPS military style game. That being said this game probably has the best multiplayer I have ever played. I'm a huge halo fan, I love Rainbow Six Vegas, I enjoyed lost planet and GRAW 2 and this trounces all of them easily. Aside from the occasional lag the mulitplayer is perfect.

Game of the year 2007 Guaranteed.

By far the best game of the year. Halo pales in comparison.

Simply amazing.

Though short the single player is THRILLING. And the real reason to buy any FPS is the multiplayer which succeeds on EVERY level. A remarkable multiplayer experience that perfectly blends run and gun with Ghost Recon style tactics. Bravo IW.

As a Brit in Singapore I had the luck of picking this game up early...and WOW am I impressed.. It's COD so you know what to expect in terms of the intensity of the firefights, but with a modern day timeline which disturbingly echoes the images you see on the news. I guarantee you'll get a feeling of deja-vu, especially in the US marine sections. The quotes from people such as Condi Rice and Vlad Putin really hammers it home that this is not WW2 but a present day "worst-case" scenario. This game is incredibly immersive and entertaining, and combined with the excellent graphics makes me feel this is the best of the FPS's out this year.

What an amazing game, nothing like it on the 360 that compares to this beauty.
