Cheryl gave it a10: Wonderful! I loved this book. I may read it again. I was saddened to read about his mom's falling out with her sister.
judi b gave it a7: Oversentimentalized novel- The author even admits this tendency. However, lots of insightful detail. I was able to take breaks and put the book down and actually had a hard time finishing it.
Donna R gave it a10: A perfect book to read on a rainy, gloomy New Year's Day. I began it and finished it on the same day. It's been said before, but I did not want it to end. Much crying, laughing, and underlining!
VMP Lan gave it a10: vivid description and truly insightful. once you pick up this book, you can hardly put it down. the only worry is you might finish the book too soon..
Kate M gave it a9: Written with a wry and warm voice, Moehringer's memoir wrestles our universal demons and rights of passage in a way that brings meaning to the everyday. Genuine, bittersweet and provocative, you'll want to continue the conversation long after last call.

John M gave it a10: Unique talent for character description--physical and emotional--poetic and Cheever like. A marvelous read.
Tom Q gave it a10: I would love to meet all the characters at the pub; I'm sure I would recognize them from JR's description. I've heard him speak about the book and there is a disconnect for me between the written and spoken word. The book really grabbed me.
Ken M gave it a10: Will make a great movie...best book I read in 2005..
Sean P gave it a10: I saw so much of myself growing up while reading this book. A must have for anyone who ever frequented a tavern in the days of their youth.
Andy B gave it a10: This guy is a GREAT writer, even if some of the book MIGHT have been novelized. So I'm waiting anxiously for his first novel.
Richard S gave it a10: A beautifully written memoir with unforgettable portratis of family and associates at the "tender bar" that are at once humorous and poignant. This is one of the books that I intend to return to each year for inspiration and emotional cleansing. JR Moehringer is an extremely gifted writer whose sensitivity and insight put him at the top of his profession.
Harold R gave it a10: Evocative of many emotions, I laughed and then cried--within minutes. This memoir recalled both memories and long forgotten or submersed feelings. Thanx, JR
Jeremy W gave it a10: Found it to be funny and rings true...I may even have discovered some answers about myself in this great read!
